Double pram reccommendations....please!

I have an 18 month old, who will be 20 or 21 months when the next baby arrives. I didnt buy a pram for him that could convert to a double, because I was certain i wouldnt fall pregnant again (I had 12+ years of infertility)

So ive been looking for a while.
I love, love, love the icandy and also the bugaboo donkey but I cant justify that sort of money as within a year of the babies birth, I assume the toddler will pretty much be walking everywhere and we can put the baby into his current pram.

So I am looking for inexpensive,

I have looked at the puggle double, theres an elegence double, and I believe the other one I saw was a hauck.

It doesnt seem you can view any of them in real life, so its a bit of a gamble, the elegence has some terrible reviews for rubbish rain covers and the hood gets soaked through quickly on the chairs.

Ive considered a second hand Icandy cos theyre about the same price second hand as the new ones listed above... but most are quite tatty or sun bleached.

Can anyone please share what they did, what they found that was good or even if they had any of these prams and hated them.

I would really like to avoid spending the £1000+ on a pram thatll only be used for maybe a year.

Thanks in advance!

I know it's not on your list OP but I had the exact same age gap and got the out n about double

It was by far the most practical, easy to use and fold buggy ever

It fits in the back of my ford fiesta, the wheels come off and I could push it one handed over grass.

Where abouts are you based? The a3 baby barn has almost all the double buggies out to try and honestly when you see them and try them, it can totally change your mind.

I was set on the donkey as thought it looked lush but my then 18 month old barely fit in the seat! He's now 4 and still fits in the out n about when he's knackered

Also join the out n about selling group on FB as there's lots of second hand listings there

BrieEncounter · 15/11/2023 12:49

Also to say the out n about has a carry cot insert that you can buy that fits over the seat. I sold it for almost the price I bought it at once mine were old enough to sit up as they keep their value

(Can you tell I love it! 😊)

i second this - we have a second hand out n about nipper double. Used it from when the baby was about 5 days old and has been so useful. You could look for a second hand one?

Lockdownmummy · 15/11/2023 13:57

I have a Mountain Buggy duet and there is a good second hand market on Facebook.

Still easy to push with my 3.5yo and 2yo. Probably will soon be selling on so you might use it for longer than you think!

I've got twins. The donkey was a pita, if you are going to use the extenders to clip on a car seat it doesn't fit through doors. It's huge folded down, the bassinet is cumbersome.

Baby jogger city mini twin was great, single hand fold, folds flat, big seats for your toddler.

BarnacleBeasley · 15/11/2023 14:47

I bought a second-hand mountain buggy duet for £300. Baby isn't here yet but toddler loves going in it, it folds really flat and you can push it through internal doors. I also got a secondhand cocoon bassinet thingy you can just plop onto the seat for £25.

OLLIE2011 · 15/11/2023 14:51

I've got twins and a toddler, the baby jogger city mini is great, you can have a separate carry cor insert or the seats are lay flat anyway. Lots on eBay and Facebook

The Out and About Nipper double is the best one. I love it. It’s so light and easy to push, much more so than most singles, and easy to get up and down. My very physically able 3 year old still wants to sit in, especially when he’s tired, and it’s great to carry extra stuff even when he doesn’t, so I wouldn’t underestimate how long you’ll use a double for. They’re not cheap but often come up second hand

Watching with interest as I’m in a similar situation myself.

I bought the Kids Kargo fitty jogger. I think it was £500. It’s been amazing and really easy to push. Children were 2 and newborn. Now have 3yo, 15m and 4m and it’s still being used every day.

Out n about nipper double here too. Bought a Phil n Teds and hated it, then borrowed the nipper and loved it. So easy to push.

Loads available second hand - I wouldn’t be precious about it being faded tbh, as long as it all works, buggies are workhorses once you get to the 2 child stage!

staybyyou · 15/11/2023 15:27

19months between mine, I had the mountain buggy duet initially but it was soooo heavy, so I sold it and got an Out n About double. I love it! My 5 year old still fits in it now, it's great.

SouthLondonMum22 · 15/11/2023 15:46

I'm having twins and I think we're between the Out n About and the Mountain Buggy Duet. I've heard mostly good things about both.

anothernameanotherproblem · 15/11/2023 16:04

Yep Out N About for us too, 19m age gap. Bought it second hand for I think £120 including carrycot. Bear in mind the carrycot is pretty narrow and my wee fat baby only fit in it for 2-3 months but he was fine in the main seat from that point as they lie flat. You can get a newborn insert for the main seat too. Get on the Facebook group, so many helpful people there!

mrssunshinexxx · 15/11/2023 19:39

Id just sling the baby and by the time baby too heavy / would be more comfortable in the pram get a buggy board for toddler

pleasestoprainingplease · 15/11/2023 20:08

I've been through a lot of buggies!! And the one I've found to tick all the boxes is the baby jogger city select. One infront of the other so narrow, the bugaboo donkey was a nightmare for this although I loved it so much. You can use one or two seats or just one seat and stick buggy board on the back. So versatile. I have either one two or three kids on it 5 days a week and it's been brilliant.

PossiblyPertunia · 15/11/2023 20:21

Also have the out n about and it's bloody brilliant! Easiest buggy to push by far and my two are super comfy in it!
