Child following mums behaviour ?

What should I do? I have custody of my child 50% of the time, and I've observed her frequently playing with her hair. She rolls it tightly with her fingers. Typically, I wouldn't be concerned, considering kids will be kids and fiddle around. However, her mother struggles with Trichotillomania (hair pulling disorder), and I'm deeply worried that my child might adopt similar behaviour over time, even though it doesn't seem like she's actively pulling her hair at the moment. Any advice is gratefully received.

Can you tie it up so she can’t pull it ?

Thanks for the reply. I do tie up it’s just the fringe she likes to fiddle with. It makes me so sick to the stomach to think what it might lead to because her mother has pulled a lot of her own hair out. I’ve even contemplated visiting the GP or something to see if they can suggest something

If you want advice I’d start with the school nurse/health visitor or GP.

Thank you, I will give that route a go

My daughter did this. She ended up with a bald patch where she was twisting the hair and it was breaking and pulling.
I used to hair pull, but only when I was a teen, and in times of stress. Never in front of anyone.

So, it may not be a case of her copying her mum...

The way I found helped with my daughter was to give her a big makeup brush. She only twisted her hair when she was sleepy, so instead she used the brush to stroke her face and hair. If I told her not to do it, she would do it more, so distracting her was the best thing.

Thank you for the reply and that sounds like a good idea. I will give it a go
