9 MO… weaning and refusing milk, is this ok?

He has never been a big fan of milk.

at 6 months when we started weaning, he went off it even more. Currently on 3 meals a day - morning is porridge with fruit et a full mashed banana maybe some blueberries and water. snack maybe some melty sticks then lunch it’s generally a pasta/veg dish. We have gone traditional weaning route so now thick chunky purées. Again with water and a little sugar free yoghurt.

his afternoon nap, I can sometimes get in a 5oz bottle but only when he is asleep. Evening meal example shepherds pie sometimes an Ella’s kitchen pouch if in a rush then a dessert like a baby custard pot with fruit.

we then get maybe a 7oz bottle in before bed, again as he is falling asleep dummy out and bottle in. If he’s not asleep he will cry. Then I normally get in a bottle when he wakes in the night. So providing he has all 3 bottles that’s around 19oz but if he doesn’t have the afternoon one that’s only 14oz

he is definitely growing and putting on weight. Last night he didn’t wake for a bottle which is great but I’m worried he’s missed out on a 7oz bottle. Health visitor said go with food over milk but I thought milk the priority before 1

Make sure you’re giving him really good comprehensive vitamin drops every day.

Can you make his meals up with formula? Probably not the whole amount but you’d get a decent amount in porridge, cheesy pasta etc.

Try him on a sippy cup now rather than a bottle. The Munchkin 360 was really easy for Dd to learn with.

Sorry forgot to add that - yep giving multi vitamin drops.

also make porridge up with his formula or sometimes full fat cows milk.

regarding water, he doesn’t understand how to suck a straw no matter what we do so we are using an open top cup helping him. We tried the munchkin one and he didn’t get it but I’m hoping now at nursery and he’s getting older he will learn as he understands us helping with the open top cup it just goes everywhere and soaks him!

A 9 month old baby will need about 600ml (approx 20oz) of formula per day.

Like the pp mentioned make up more of his meals using formula.

I any only my 10mth old to drink max 10oz a day

My son refused all milk when he started weaning, it was just better to eat. The hv said to cook with as much dairy as possible. We are a lot of cheese sauce, yoghurt, rice pudding. I even tried making jelly with milk (it was grim). Very large dollops of butter in mashed potato etc, custard.

He is now 11 and will only drink milk and water.
