we went in august 2006. it was a two center holiday first week in dubai and then on the the maldives. we had booked a beach villa and when we got there we upgraded to a spa water villa, i think it was only $300 us dollars, for 3 nights in the spa water villa.so its loads cheaper upgrading when you get there. its quite a foodie place all the food is great.
when you book send them an email to make sure they do not book you into one of the villas near the dhoni port. as its quite noisy. also you should check out trip advisor.com
got to bath baby now but i will be back if you have any questions.
you are gonna love it.

lionbeast, thanks for the trip advisor tip.im on there now. where did you stay in dubai? how much where drinks etc? did you do any of the trips? would you go there again?

OP posts:
lionbeast · 11/03/2008 20:42

we stayed here in dubai jmbh

it was v nice, nice views, fantastic weather, but i prefered the maldives.
even though it was a really nice hotel, there where a few s'lebs there at the same time as us. my dh thought it was funny that rooney was there at the bar at the time too, i didn't like the decor much, its a bit brassy iykwim. far too much gold for my taste, lol.

iirc the drinks where about 5-10$ us or something, it wasn't crazy prices, unless you wanted to spend crazy money. you could order the most expnsive wine which i think worked out to about£20,000 a bottle.

we went on the snorkleing excursion and fishing etc both excellent.
but just being there is great.
one evening we where walking back from the other island there is a wooden bridge that connects both islands, and we saw a huge manta ray, it was so beautiful it was lit up by the lights under the bridge, it was so graceful. also we liked sitting out on the deck of the water villa that also had a light underneath, we saw turtles and baby sharks [and dolphins on the fishing trip.]
also we used the spa twice and the pool is lovely too.

we will definatly go again maybe next year, although there's so many places to go in the world seems a shame to go to the same place twice.

this year i think we are going to majorca as we are a bit weary of travelling too far, thinking of going here

not quite as glam i know, but nice anyway!

Blimmin' 'eck, that's a holiday and a half.
Can I come with you?

milkgoddess · 11/03/2008 20:56

lyrasilvertongue, can you fit in my suitcase? if so come on !!

OP posts:
LyraSilvertongue · 11/03/2008 20:59

Hmm, you might need a trunk...

milkgoddess · 11/03/2008 21:04

ok then, a trunk it is. do you want to bring your dh/dp or anyone else?

OP posts:
LyraSilvertongue · 11/03/2008 21:37

DP and two DSs. Also my mum and brother need a holiday. Will we all fit?

TillyScoutsmum · 11/03/2008 21:43

milkgoddess - no - I went to a different island (Meerufenfushi). It was absolute bliss. Just so laid back. A perfect lazy holiday. Take stacks of books and not many shoes

milkgoddess · 11/03/2008 21:56

ok then, three trunks should do about it lst.

tsm, that just what we are after, lazin about, did you go snorkeling or anything like that? cannot wait to forget the shoes

We hired the snorkelling stuff but we're both so shortsighted we could barely see anything more than a blur of colours We had a water villa though with a glass floor so could see loads of stuff swimming past (sharks, rays and all sorts of gorgeous fish I won't pretend to know the names of)

We just sunbathed, swam, ate, drank and relaxed. We got through 20 books between us. Oh - and took full advantage of the spa

I am so .. It is just the most amazing place

belgo · 12/03/2008 06:58

Tillyscoutsmum - I had a prescription mask made for me when I went diving. It was well worth it.

2sugars · 12/03/2008 07:16

Bloody hell. You lot must be on a different planet. Or I am. Belgo, you know I love you, but do you use it in the bath since its redundancy? BTW, that link in the initial post doesn't work for me. Just as well, probably

belgo · 12/03/2008 07:18

lol. Hopefully I'll be using it again in a few years...

milkgoddess · 12/03/2008 09:49

belgo, did you go to this island? or a different island? did you go on any trips? or have tips?

tilly, do you plan to go there again?

OP posts:
belgo · 12/03/2008 09:51

no I backpacked on a very tight budget years ago, it was fantastic, particularly the scube diving

TillyScoutsmum · 12/03/2008 09:54

I would love to go there again but probably not for a good few years until the dc's are older and we can afford it. We blew our "baby savings" on it last time just after I had a 2nd mc. We decided to just relax and delay ttc for a while... I suppose you can guess what I discovered a few weeks after getting back ...

How old are your dc's ?

milkgoddess · 12/03/2008 09:59

belgo, we have never been diving before is it difficult? sounds really fun.
but we are taking our 1 year old so we would have to take turns so it might not be as much fun.

where do you go when you backpacked? was it a rouud the world trip?

tilly, what a lovely story, what a lovely present to bring back. dd will be our little one will be one when we go.

lionking, we are thinking of going to that hotel in dubai, would you reccomend it? whats the tucker like? is it about a 7 hours flight? did you go to that water park? is it anygood?

belgo · 12/03/2008 10:23

you can go on introductory suba dives to see if you enjoy it (I recommend that). I did that first, then did two courses - basic scuba diving and advanced scuba diving (sounds far more impressive then it is)- and I can dive down to 30 metres. I've dived in Australia and Thailand, but as I said, that was years ago when I was childless and fearless and I haven't been since.

Snorkelling is also fantastic - (and of course you don't need to learn about any complicated equipment) - you get to see nearly as much as scuba diving but it's all two dimensional compared to scuba diving which is three dimensional.

2sugars · 12/03/2008 10:27

Oh, FGS put me out of my misery and give me a link 'cos that first one doesn't work!

belgo · 12/03/2008 10:31

just imagine blue sea, white sand, villas on stilts in the sea, and you'll get the picture twosugars

2sugars · 12/03/2008 10:35

Belgo, I can, but not £17,000'sworth for a fortnight!
