Bronchiolitis - Advice

So my little boy has bronchiolitis again. We've been admitted three times now. At 4 months, 6 months and at 9 months.

This time he was admitted Weds-Fri and needed oxygen at night both nights. He was feeding ok. They discharged us on Friday after he slept for 30 minutes without oxygen with a level of 90/91 on the SATs machine.

I wasn't that happy with this but they're the doctors and they know best so we went home.

The previous two nights have been hell. His owlet sock went off for low oxygen 11 and 14 times respectively. He cries continuously for hours. His cough is worse. His breathing is still fast and he still has retractions. He's down to less than half feeds and only doing dribbles of wee in his nappy. I called open access last night and they said calpol and a doctor would call but nobody did.

I have a habit of being anxious I wont lie but I'm not sure I can do another night of this.

What would you do? Should I take him back if tonight is the same? During the day he seems a bit better, not drinking much but he is playing and smiling. He is now technically on day 7 so he should have been over the worst but I don't feel like he is. I don't want to go unnecessarily though does this just sound like how it should be? Both times prior he was much better on coming home.

For more info - he's a 32 weeker, 2.5lbs at birth. He only needed breathing support for 12 hours when born.

hi op ,

Gosh what a rough time.

Taken him back. Better to safe than sorry.

My DD was 33 weeker

Hey, I have a 34 weeker who is now 14 months and has multiple admissions for viral infections. Absolutely you can refuse to go home if you aren’t happy, I wouldn’t be going home with sats of 90/91 just for a 30 min nap. Not drinking itself is enough to be there and frequent desats picked up on the owlet too. Stay in until he is feeding well and has consistent sats of 95 when asleep
