Is this normal for teething?

Have a 16mo DD, her first 2 molars have popped through and whilst it was pretty bad it wasn’t unmanageable.

She’s had a viral cold for the last week so has been a bit up and down, and has been rubbing her ears so I assumed her other molars were coming through too at the same time - though no obvious signs when I feel for them.

She woke up from her nap today absolutely inconsolable.. cried for half an hour and wouldn’t take a dummy or be soothed at all. Sounded like a real pain cry, was rubbing her ear and I thought oh god ear infection. I called 111 and gave some calpol. They heard her screaming and asked a paediatrician to phone me back within the hour. Well typically, she’s now up, eating a biscuit, clapping at the tv - I’m guessing the calpol has kicked in!

Is that a normal level of pain for teething? I’ll still speak to them when they call but she was really inconsolable, I’ve never seen her like that before.

Why do you not think it sounds like an ear infection? It sounds more like an ear infection that teething to me, of a combination of both maybe.

Sorry I should’ve said - no other real signs of an infection. No fever/redness/fluid.. just the ear rubbing that made me think infection.

It could be teething pain or it could be an ear infection. I would want her ears checked.
