Board games - 3/4 year old recommendations

Hi all - we have a lot of the Orchard Toys games that my 3 1/2 year old loves. Some are quite similar though and a bit repetitive. Any non orchard toys board game/other sort of game recommendations?

We like Outfoxed and Uno. Hoping to hear some other people's suggestions too!

Zingo
Snakes and ladders
Mouse trap

Sequence for kids. No reading required or number recognition, great for little kids.

We sort of play some general ones just for fun, even though not necessarily doing it properly.

Dominoes, Continuo, Frustration, Make & Break have been fun here.

This is a German one (no idea why it's in French on the UK site though) which is absolutely BRILLIANT if you can get hold of a copy of it. So much fun. In German it's called Kakerlakak. Doesn't require any reading, so doesn't matter if you do get a foreign one.

Frustration!

BertieBotts · 10/11/2023 19:53

Oh this is based on Lotti Carotti which is another German one which is meant to be really fun as well. https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0C5Y48JZR/

mine loved marble run - great fun. Really hate mouse trap so bl00dy fiddly. Had a lot of orchard toys at that age. Their jigsaws are great as well. Also try
snakes and ladders. connect four maybe as well?

Thisisthedawningoftheageofaquarius · 10/11/2023 19:56

Not board game but matching pairs type cards for snap ; we have ones with animals they loved

YourNameGoesHere · 10/11/2023 19:57

Pop up pirate has been a hit here since DS was about 2.

He is nearly 4 now and also loves snakes and ladders, noughts and crosses, snap and uno.

tulipsunday · 10/11/2023 19:58

Brilliant thx all. Card games great as well as could be Xmas stocking fillers

Another vote for Pop up pirate. My daughter is 3.5 and we play this most days. Other games she enjoys are:

Monkey flip (Argos)
Chomping Charlie
Dominos

I've bought hungry hippos for Christmas and a grufflo board game that her friend has and she enjoyed x

Flockameanie · 10/11/2023 20:04

I remember playing quite a lot of Hoot Owl Hoot with DD when she was that age. It's a cooperative game.

NuffSaidSam · 10/11/2023 20:07

Dobble is brilliant.

Mumofmarauders · 11/11/2023 04:41

Orchard toys have a game called "what a performance" and it is so good for that age - different from their usual fare. We still play it when I have friends with younger kids over and my 8 yo still enjoys playing it with them.

StarTrek6 · 11/11/2023 04:51

I see Tummy Ache is an orchard toy but it’s always popular

RhubarbFairy · 11/11/2023 05:02

Agreeing with Snakes and Ladders, Uno, Connect 4, Frustration, and Pop Up Pirate.

DS loved the Orchard game 'Catch and Count' at that age.

Junior Monopoly and Junior Game of Life are good for this age. You just help them read the cards.

A firm favourite in our house is Tyrannosaurus Rex. It says 6+, but it's not complicated so would be fine. It's a similar concept to Frustration.

We also have a couple of Top Trumps/Match the Crazy Cube games. You can get then with all different characters. Just linking the cheapest one I found. Loads on Amazon though, depending on your DCs interests.

Lizzieregina · 11/11/2023 05:07

I bought my kids an oversized deck of regular cards and they could play Go fish at that age.

Also many of the choices mentioned here.

Oh also Candyland. Not sure if you can get that one in the UK.

Hurrayforfridays · 11/11/2023 05:10

We had a game called Hoot which was great - fun, simple and you won/lost as a team. Also Outfoxed was another great one from the same company. Think it says 5+ so maybe not this year though.

user1492757084 · 11/11/2023 09:09

The best one is a board game - Outfoxed.
Others ..
Uno
Pack of cards to play many games
Games with the dice dome in the middle
Memory

tulipsunday · 11/11/2023 10:22

Wow thanks everyone will look into these

Not a board game as a such but my 3 year old loves pop up pirate

modgepodge · 11/11/2023 10:28

We have frustration, the junior game of life, the very hungry caterpillar, and a couple of compendiums (frozen and peppa pig themed) which have about 6 games included, things like snap, pairs, go fish, bingo. My daughter is 4 and loves a board game! Some good suggestions on here that I shall look in to.

Avoid kerplunk. 10 minutes of adult set up for about 40 seconds of play!!

I find charity shops great for games and puzzles!

Shayisgreat · 11/11/2023 10:31

Zingo and memory were big hits for my ds.
