If you have small children what time do you sit down for the evening

2 children aged 7 months and 2 years, we usually manage to sit down around 8.30-9pm for the evening until then there is always something that needs to be done. Could definitely do more after that but I need a bit of an evening. What time do you all get everything done by to sit down?

I’d love to tidy downstairs before we go up for a bath but they are usually both so messy it’s straight upstairs before they can make any more mess!

About 830, when they are in bed and we get to eat dinner. Normally a few more chores left e.g. load washing machine, load dishwasher etc. We tidy the house up as we go. We have 7 month old twins

I tend to tidy up after tea while my DH does bath and bedtime so as soon as the kids are in bed we try to get quick showers and sit down together.

Around 8.30 ish. My kids are now 3 and 4. 3 year old has never slept so I'm up and down like a yo yo. If I'm up 3 times a night I'm lucky. I can be up hourly.

Mumaway · 09/11/2023 21:08

We decided the evening was more important than the morning (when we had to get up for work anyway), so bedtime 630, downstairs for dinner and telly by 7. Wake-up 530😭

Codlingmoths · 09/11/2023 21:13

We do not get it all done . We don’t get the 8yo down until 9 and then have to check he’s not reading and then the 1yo wakes back up and we are lucky to have cleaned up dinner much less have done anything else. We just keep going.

6 month and 23 month old. I put baby to bed 7-8.30. Partner is downstairs with toddler, who goes upstairs 8ish. If toddler still up I sit with her and partner. He's usually down 9-9.30. Or falls asleep with her. Even if he doesn't, I'm ready to go to bed by 9/9.30.

Super rarely we'll both be down by 8/8.30, so some chores and then watch TV together until i need bed 9.30/45 (on a late night!!). Partner stays down watching tv/movie & then move chairs & set robot hoover to go until midnight.

After my youngest is in bed and hopefully asleep so around 8.30, although that is usually when my eldest appears wanting to watch something together. I don't even bother with adult tv anymore as she isn't in bed till about 9.30 and it feels too late to start anything.

About 7:30 when the toddler is in bed, although the baby can still be awake but she is usually calm then

Butsheisnot · 09/11/2023 23:09

We have an almost 3 year old who is always asleep by 7 at the latest. I keep the house pretty tidy in the day so hoover and finish off while my husband does the little ones bath.

We might do some ironing in front of the tv a couple of times a week but generally evenings are all ours from 7 onwards.

1 and 4 year old both in bed at 7pm ish. I head straight for the sofa once they’re asleep so not long after 7! Tidy up downstairs before they go up to bed and I eat with them so no dinner/washing/tidying to do once they’re in bed. Too knackered to do much else anyway!

Same here, just turned 3yo and 6mo - bedtime 630/7, sit down after that. Tidy up before family dinner. General household cleaning and chores get done during the day with kids in tow, 3yo lives for the big broom or a 'balling-up-the-socks fight' and the 6m old loves watching the washing machine 😂

3yo sleeps through, baby does not and first wake is about 930pm so I get about 2.5hrs to switch off!

bigsmallmassive · 10/11/2023 06:14

My kids are 10 and 13 and every night I'm up to my eyes in homework's, shipping them to clubs or cleaning up. I never really get the chance to chill out on the sofa lol

sarahc336 · 10/11/2023 06:16

6 and a 2 year old and they're normally both in bed by 8pm, sometimes it can creep up to 8.30pm if I've not been organised though.

blackfluffycat · 10/11/2023 06:21

I don't really. I mean I do but they have never gone to bed at a certain time without getting up
and coming to see me. They are now 11 and 13 and I've never put them to bed and not seen them again until the morning ever.
