Can't get baby off breast and onto bottle

Basically as the title says. I've been EBF for 4 months and over now and I'm honestly wanting to give it up. No other reasons other than I don't enjoy it anymore. Please no judgement, just any tips or hacks to get the baby on the bottle, I've tried doing it when she wakes, hungry, not hungry, getting OH to do it, she just doesn't want it and it's getting me depressed in all honesty.

try changing the teats ones that sort of replicate the breast I use tommy tippee closer to nature. I am doing a mixture of breast and bottle and it took few days but hang in there it will happen.

No judgement; is it a circumstancial displeasure (the fact no one else can do it, etc) or have you developed an aversion/unpleasant emotions when you're feeding?

Have you tried nuby or mam teats?

Like pp np judgement at all, but whilst you're trying out different teats etc try magnesium supplement as a spray on the backs of your knees. Sounds weird but it totally cures aversion/ breastfeeding stress/ ick. Obviously doesn't do the night feeds for you and stops your boobs leaking but it is amazing in what it does do.

I was exactly the same with my first so no judgement!
my tip is try a couple of different bottles if you haven’t already, mam teats are totally different to tommee tippee for example. My son would only use the TT ones.
if she’s coughing and spitting out milk she may want a smaller teat
and also I’d check the milk is warm enough, bf babies are used to nice warm milk
good luck and try not to worry, she’ll get it ☺️

I've tried both tommee tippee and the mam ones she just doesn't want to know..also to point out she's never had a dummy so she's just not used to the silicone type nipple texture. It doesn't give me the ick or emotional upset just that I can't go anywhere and I have a lot of stuff coming up soon and I'd feel a lot better knowing she was on a bottle x

Why don’t you try BF with a nipple sheild as a stop gap. That should get her used to the silicone material?

Wrongsideofpennines · 09/11/2023 14:31

Maybe try a nipple shield to introduce a different texture. Also you could try a different position to feed, so not cradled in your arms but maybe facing away from you with back of head against your chest, or propped upright on a pillow. If she is nuzzled in close to your chest she will just want boob cos that's what she knows. Also is it breastmilk in the bottle? Because if its an unfamiliar taste and sensation that might be off-putting. You could express to introduce the bottle then switch.

Starfish125 · 09/11/2023 14:34

Nipple shield is very clever I'll try that. And yes with the breastfeeding position the minute I hold her she roots so she knows what she gets from me when held so I'll try a different position.. unfortunately I tried to express many times and never got far! Even with an electric one x

My daughter used a bottle on and off from 2 weeks but had bottle aversions in the middle.
One thing that helped was to offer her 1oz of milk in a bottle after every feed. Within 3 days she went from not wanting the bottle anywhere near her to taking it. Once we got her to take some sips we could then try her with a feed. We did it with breast milk but you could do it with formula or a mix of breast milk and formula which might help the transition.

We used the lanisoh bottles with a variflow teat. Variflow teats are meant to be better for breastfed babies as it more closely mimics the nipple. Suck more get more milk sick less get less milk
