or do we have to buy him a big bed asap? Am really scared he's going to break his neck if he tries it again!

Thing is though, am so worried if he goes in a big bed he'll be all over the house all night, rather than going to sleep.

How does it work?

age?

we moved ds1 into a bed at just under 2yo for precisely this reason - i was worried he'd hurt himslef

we put a stairgate on his door to stop him roaming (burglar alarm set at night so couldn't take the risk)

Kewcumber · 11/03/2008 10:22

velcro on sheets and back of pj's

Tutter - do you really have burglar alarm at night Just how lawless is wargrave - bet you miss nice law abiding KEw...

Ds can get out of his cot he is nearly 2 but he has a sleeping bag which as yet he cannot get out of which means he cannot get out the cot, he is going into a big bed soon but I am too lazy to sort out all the furniture and room moving ATM.

afraid so kew, loads of break-ins (at night ) here)

house secluded - no-one would see

Kewcumber · 11/03/2008 10:27

Blimey Tutter you may as well have moved to Brixton! Are you still renting?

DS is now getting out of his sleeping bag (and nappy and pj's etc last night) but thankfully hasn't even tried getting out of the cot yet - I'm going to move him to a bed early summer and start off by hanging around until he's asleep then putting the stairgate at teh top of the stairs. rather hoping it will give me an extra 30 mins sleep at the weekend as he might get up and get into bed with me... (wishful thinking?)

Kewcumber · 11/03/2008 10:27

can't you just take the side off the cot for now and get him used to being able to get out before you buy a bigger bed?

bohemianbint · 11/03/2008 15:36

Sorry, should have said he's just 19 months, and I was rather hoping to keep him in the cot until he was 13.

Unfortunately the side doesn't come off so will have to hope for the best until we can find the cash for a bed I guess! Might try sewing him into the sleeping bag...

How about putting the matress on the floor?

ArmadilloDaMan · 11/03/2008 15:38

Stick the mattress on the floor - with a flat board or couple of towels under if you have cold or drafty house.

Have only an inch or so to fall if they roll over and you can save up for bed.

bohemianbint · 11/03/2008 15:39

Cunning...hadn't thought of that. Cheers - and how quick off the mark are you two!

yeah cos it's not like I did it or anything

ArmadilloDaMan · 11/03/2008 15:41

I don't like cots and I don't like safety guard rail thingys - mattress on floor is safest imo.

ScoobyDoo · 11/03/2008 15:43

DD done this about 2 months ago she is now 2.2, we put the matress from the cot on the floor & a stair gate on the door, then about 3 weeks later her new bed arrived & there has been no looking back.

izzybiz · 11/03/2008 15:43

My Dd only climbed out once, she hit the floor rather hard so didn't try it again!

S1ur · 11/03/2008 15:46

Currently we have several night-time visitations from small people so our mattress is on the floor too.

Put stairgate at top of stairs if your worried about falling. As for wandering, depends on the child, our dd never really did. Only came to top of stairs to ask for things, I suspect things will be different with our ds though...
