Is all bubble bath rubbish these days?

When I was a kid, I remember my baths having mountains, acres, whole worlds of foamy bubbles - from the scant blob of bubble bath my mum would put in.

Now I'm mum, and 1) you can hardly find bubble bath in the shops (it's all 'relaxing bath soak') and 2) that which does profess to be bubble bath barely crates a layer across the water, and disappears in 2 seconds flat.

Where the heck am I going wrong? Xx

I find Radox is the only decent bubblebath for decent big bubbles (I still have to froth the water with my hands, but the pressure in my taps is low) but it works and I love the Radox scents too.

I still give my dc Johnson's top to toe or whatever it's called, seems to bubble up the bath quite well

Radox and a hand whisk

You need to put more in and you need to agitate the water. So put it in while you run the strongest tap (normally cold).

I am too stingy with bubbles and get the effect you have. Because I remember as a kid the bottles would say "Use one capful" and I have dutifully been doing that.

DH puts about a third of a bottle in one bath Shock which is WAY too much but he does end up with mountains of bubbles.

I now copy his example, though I don't use as much as he does, I do a squirt or a glug rather than a carefully measured tiny amount. You can put any old soap in, it doesn't need to be bubble bath. Shampoo lathers up nicely.

Lush sell a gadget that makes more bubbles, it's basically a larger version of a milk frother!

We used to have Matey as children and it was so bubbly , I use loads of carex sensitive for my younger children and that seems to bubble up

CesareBorgia · 05/11/2023 19:21

I was having this conversation with DH yesterday - you're right, the bubbles just don't last anymore.

mogtheexcellent · 05/11/2023 19:22

It depends on how hard the water is. I live in very hard water area and Matey is the only kids one that works. Not mountains of bubbles though.

radox! And a healthy amount of it. Soap can remove the bubbles so once you start using that they disappear.

WhatInTheFuckery · 05/11/2023 19:33

We use Tesco's own baby bubble bath, put it directly under the tap whilst it's running fast and the bath ends up full of bubbles!

Heartbreaktuna · 09/11/2023 09:33

I've tried loads, you need half the bottle for any bubbles at all, and they don't last more than 20 minutes. Waste of money.

We use the shower to get the most bubbles in the bath. We also get more bubbles with cooler water so we build up the bubbles as the water is warming.
It was part of the reason we recently replaced the taps on our bath with a shower mixer tap
