Christmas present for 8 month old?

Just after ideas for presents for my DS who will be 8.5 months at Christmas - from his DGPs?
Very fortunate that we are able to afford all necessities (clothes/ day to day toys etc) but don't have a lot of room so a swing set or big play kitchens etc not really workable.
I think both sets are budgeting about £100 to £150, so what would you recommend that he will grow into over the next year or so?
My only idea is one of those small push bikes, that can be converted as they progress?
I really don't know much about babies, winging it as we go so not sure what will be really useful over the next year, and that DGPs can see DS enjoy Blush

Thank you!

My DD was exactly that age on her first Christmas. We got a ball pit and an activity table as her main presents.

She also loved the fisher price picnic basket shape sorter toy and still plays with that at age 3. Those convertible trikes are good. If you love getting out and about maybe one of the baby carrier backpacks, we used ours so much from approx 1 after she had grown out of the baby carrier.

Maybe if you have limited space they could buy one toy and kindly put the rest in his bank account xx

Would they be happy to spend it on an activity? They could psy for swimming lessons or a weekly baby music class. Or an annual pass to a local attraction (farm/zoo/aquarium etc).

Otherwise, Duplo is a fantastic, long lasting toy, but it's pricey to build up a good collection. Ditto Brio train track.

TBH they're too young to appreciate a big present in any way, they'll be pleased with anything. If GPs want to spend that much how about a token present and the rest in savings or premium bonds?

These are brilliant ideas thank you! The backpack one might be a winner as we have a dog and so are all out a lot, though feels more like a gift for us than DS!
The attractions idea is also intriguing- I definitely feel like I'm spending a small fortune on classes/ soft play etc!
Thank you again!

I was going to suggest stuff for the garden but she's got a birthday in around March so that would be a good opportunity for that. Having said that, you'll then have a 9 month or so lull before another present opportunity so you're really thinking of stuff for the next 12 months across Christmas and birthday so

  • some sort of push along toy (cart with blocks, solid doll's pram) for when she's learning to walk
  • ball pit
  • activity table
  • sand tray or water table
  • some sort of mini climbing frame or soft play type blocks (or you can just use the sofa cushions!)
  • basic see saw or rocker
  • ride on for in the house (Fisher Price do good ones but there are all sorts)
  • books, books & more books. She'll be really getting into lift the flap or pop up books and things over the next few months
  • Happyland or Little People type small world toys
  • a doll or two

If there's one near you, it can be useful to go somewhere like a Smyths toys and see what's on offer. You might be surprised! Even the Argos catalogue can give you some ideas.

If you don't need toys, then one of those outward facing bookcases or something like that might be an option
