Changing nappies of older children (but still toddlers)

Do you make your 2/3 year olds lie down to have their nappy changed? Just idly wondering as was at a friends yesterday and she gave me a changing mat to change my child on but I haven’t used one for ages!

Lie down for poo, stand up for pee if they are pull ups.

I make mine lie down for a poo nappy. Stand up for just wet ones mostly.

Always preferred they lie down for both- much easier to clean everything properly.

Toddlers being toddlers though, I’d often let them keep standing up if it was just a wee to avoid a tantrum.

For poos though I insisted they lie down.

Starmoonsu · 03/11/2023 20:37

Yeah lie down for a poo, and just try anything to distract them and keep them still

TinyTeacher · 03/11/2023 20:40

Depends on the toddler. If they are very cooperative then doing them standing is easy enough. Boys also easier to check for clenliness than girls.

Good point, mines a boy but friends is a girl.

My son got autism too so it hard to change him I am looking for better nappies if anyone knows any that fits him he's 5

WeightoftheWorld · 03/11/2023 20:58

For DS who has just turned 2 - standing up for wet nappies at home/friend/relatives house, but currently still laying down if on a changing table in public toilets. Always laying down for a poo though. Did the same with DD but she was then toilet trained at 26 months. I don't think DS will be toilet trained until later though for various reasons.

My DD is quite petite so these may be too small for your son, but she is 5 and wears Asda's own brand nappy pants overnight as she's still wet overnight. Very rarely have any problems with leakage and she's comfortable in them and they're very affordable.

Pampers and tesco make size 7 nappies. I’ve only used the the pampers in size 7 due to skin suddenly reacting to other brands.
