Mum trying to teach LO to call me by my name

Am I being hormonal or is it odd that my mum is teaching my LO to call me by my first name instead of “mum”? She’s not doing this to DP, when with my LO she refers to him as “dad”. Weird or should I just get over it?

My 2 kids have called me by my first name since they were about 8 and 6 respectively. I still get people saying it's 'weird' and they should call me 'Mum' or something. Diff'rent strokes for diff'rent folks is what I say.

I imagine this was your dcs choice though.

And not engineered by a grandparent who decided not to listen to your request to stop.

She is trying to undermine your "mother" status, which is really unhealthy and smacks of jealousy.

I'd be putting your mum very firmly in her place and telling her to stop or leave your house.

Start referring to your dm as That Witch. Or see her a lot less..

My ex got our 2 year old to call me by my first name. People would get confused when I took her to mums groups and ask why, it was horrid. Fortunately I kicked him out when she was 2 and a half so it didn't last long.

It's hurtful and horrible. I would start calling your mother by her first name especially in front of other people.

She's strange, and that is out of order. Tell her unless she stops it, you won't be seeing so much of her.....

But in this case the GM is referring to the mum by her name, and the father as dad. She’s referring to the two parents differently.

My kids call me 'Manny' except when they want something, in which case it's 'Mum'.

SaveMeFromMyBoobs · 04/11/2023 22:44

I'd be seeing much less of her, and when I did see her calling her by her name right back, preferably a nickname derivative of it you know she hates.

But their Mum doesn't want them too so your point is moot?
