Did I leave baby to cry it out?

LO was due for a nap and I have a dodgy tummy today so I popped him in his crib and ran to the loo. Could hear him crying but couldn’t get to him obviously. After about ten minutes he was silent and when I checked on him he had fallen asleep. Is this cry it out? I feel bad :(

What was your other option? Shit your pants?

It's fine, it wasn't intentional, you're not well so no need to beat yourself up about it. He's having a nap, you get some rest. Brew

Why do you feel bad?? He went over to sleep after a few minutes of crying. He'll never remember it and you were about to shit yourself.

No it's not "cry it out", it was you being incapacitated. This sort of thing happening once in the context of an otherwise responsive and warm mother/baby relationship is really really not a problem.

Within 10 mins he self settled and went to sleep. Whether you label it CIO or not doesn't really matter, it was necessary due to the circumstances, he was safe and he is now comfortably snoozing. There is nothing to feel bad about.

It’s life, you did not had any other option
it was not intentional
your baby is fine
your baby will wake up as normal
sometimes life gets in the way, don’t feel bad

Really don't fret. I'm a deep sleeper, I am well aware that DS self settled (aka cry it out) when he was a baby. Like you I didn't purposefully leave him to cry. He's 11 now and seems just fine.

Agree with PP you did what you needed to do in the moment. Baby will be fine.

I'll never forget when I was on the motorway with a howling 8 week old and I simply couldn't stop. After about ten minutes she just stopped crying, like a light switch. I felt soooo bad!
