Practical help please - 8 month feeding schedule

I am trying to get the feeding schedule right for my DD who is almost 8 months. So far weaning has gone well in the sense that she hasn’t refused anything (yet…I know!) and is happy to switch between finger foods and feeding herself and being spoon fed, eating plenty either way. She is on three meals however I cannot work the timings out right and somehow it feels like she isn’t getting enough milk (she’s formula fed).

What did feeding schedules look like for your babies at this age?

it’s complicated by the fact I’m more or less full time back at work. DD is looked after by my DMIL who will follow whatever schedule I set. The complicating factor is a commute time of 30 mins in the morning and as much as 50 mins going home with traffic which really gets in the way! For example it makes it difficult for me to do a “breakfast” at home first thing because of how quickly we need to be put the door to drop her and get me to work on time.

Atm a typical day looks like

5.30/6 wake up and full 8oz bottle

9.15 ish (after DMIL gets back from school run for my eldest - I know she’s a saint!). Breakfast maybe baby cereal, fruit etc and a bottle. Usually around 4oz and the rest may have been used for baby porridge etc.

12.15/12.30 lunch. A proper meal either as finger foods or spoon fed. Water. At the moment we’re not offering a bottle here as don’t want to put her off the lunch or put her off a third meal later in the afternoon. Should we be?

4.30ish “tea” usually something like toast or a cheese spread sandwich, yoghurt, fruit etc. lighter than lunch. again no bottle here as so close to bedtime.

We are generally travelling home between 5 and 6.

6/6.30 8oz bottle at bedtime

10-11pm night feed. Wakes for a full bottle.

Ideally I want to keep the 4 bottles but lose the night one and gain one in the day. Just can’t see how.
atm she more or less finishes everything she’s given.

Any descriptions of a typical food day in the life of your 8 month old would be great!

Mine has just turned 10 months but he has been on this schedule for a couple of months.

6:45am - 8oz bottle
8:00/8:30am - breakfast, usually either weetabix with half a banana, porridge with grated apple or something like egg and soldiers.
11:00am - about 5oz bottle
12:30 - lunch, today was a peanut butter and jam sandwich (low/no sugar jam) with mango and some carrot puffs
2:30 - wake from nap, will usually give a snack of fruit but need to do a shop so he had a strawberry biscuit rusk thing from Aldi
3:30 - about 5oz bottle
5:00 - tea, tonight was lentil dhal and rice with yoghurt for pud
7:15 - 8oz bottle

it feels like all I do all day is feed him in one way or another 😂 I am working on dropping the afternoon bottle at the moment and he hasn’t been fussed about it the last couple of days.

Mine is very similar to yours although my (9month old) baby won't drink water so I offer a 4oz bottle after each meal just for some hydration! He has about half I guess.

7am: 7oz bottle
9.30: breakfast & 4oz
12.30ish: lunch & 4oz
4ish: tea & 4oz
7pm: 7oz bottle
10pm: Still has a night feed of 7oz

@Tisfortired I feel the same! If I introduced a bottle into the afternoon I would spend the whole day feeding her one thing or another. It doesn’t seem right 😂 She is my second but I have no memory of it being this complicated with my first!

@calorcalorcalor maybe offering a smaller bottle at each meal is the way to go as i am worried about how little milk there is in her day.
