How much to spend on present

DS has just started reception and already been invited to four parties, for the first we spent about £15 on two items, the next the mother has stated no presents just £5 in a card which is handy. Not sure how much we should be spending on presents now, next party I asked the mum if child needed anything and she mentioned child likes crafting, I've seen some kits for £10 but would I get something else as well or is £10 reasonable? Feel awkward asking other mums how much they have spent

I spend as little as possible on a party gift, usually between £5-£10. The entertainer store always has heavily reduced toys.

£10 is fine imo

after realising we were in for a whole year of reception classes I started spending £5-10 and so does everyone else from what I see. The works and B&M have good gifts in that price range

They seem to go to so many parties at that age and it can get expensive. £10 a party, say 15 parties in a year is £150 spent on presents. I used to buy colouring stuff for £5-£10.

£10 max.

£5-10

I buy in the sales, £20 toys for £7-9 usually. Slightly more for best friends

Argos often haven 2 for £15 offers which are great. I've recently started giving book vouchers too - £10 & no wrapping needed either 🤣 Thankfully eldest DC is in year 3 & they seem to have stopped the whole class parties, youngest dc is autistic so generally hates parties and declines!

I used to be generous and spend £20. I now know that is a mistake! £10 for kids in her year now. That seems to be the norm.

Although at my own DC party, she did receive some very generous gifts of around £15 to £20.

I think keep a note of who gives what and reciprocate?

If it's a £20 on a present I bet it is big.... I dread finding space for all the presents when one of my children has a birthday! Colouring book/magic painting etc is IDEAL. Doesn't take up much space, keeps them busy and you can throw it away when it's finished. Often less than £5.
