Am I the only one not doing anything for Halloween?

Realised today I'm the only parent that hasn't dressed their baby in a special outfit for Halloween. Went to a baby group and everyone else was dressed up! In my mums group they are all posting pictures of their babies sitting in pumpkins etc. I've literally done nothing 😂 I'm not a big fan of Halloween so don't really get what the fuss is about. Plus I think what's the point when they are just baby? I expected a few to dress up but I definitely seem to be in the minority! Anyone else not bothering with Halloween?!

Not for a baby, seems wasteful and a lot of money spent just for a quick photo

Mumoftwotoddlers · 31/10/2023 13:32

No point when they're tiny as they've no idea what's happening but it can be a fun sensory activity to carve a pumpkin or go for a walk to look at Halloween decorations, just like with Christmas lights

this is one of those brilliant holidays that will come to you - in 3/4 years max your “baby” will come downstairs one morning and announce that they want to be Skye from Paw Patrol / an elf / a biscuit, and will demonstrate a keen understanding of how trick or treating works. Repeat annually. Until then you’re good.

Yes I get it when they are old a bit older. I was just surprised at how many parents dress their babies in complicated outfits they've bought especially! My baby would just get it covered in food/sick/dribble within 5 minutes and there's no chance he's sitting still long enough for a decent photo 😂

The OP reads a little bit like you feel superior to the others. Honestly, do what you want. I think I dressed my kids in a little pumpkin outfit when they were babies but only because they were hand me downs. When they were about 3 we did a little party with their friends where they dressed up and did apple bobbing and stuff. Since they started school we have a little party and go trick or treating.

Just do what you want and others can do the same.

I brought DD1 cute pumpkin onesie to wear at her first Halloween, forgot the date and didn't put them on her, turned up to baby group and everyone was all dressed up! Never mind. She wore them as PJ's instead! She's now 6 and is very excited to be a witch after school today.

I don't do Halloween either, though nursery has been doing a lot of Halloween themed activities with them. I sent DD1 (nearly 3) in in a hand-me-down costume from her costume, while DD2 (14 months) wore a cheap top with pumpkins, cat's, etc printed on. This is the first year I've dressed them for it and I probably wouldn't have if I hadn't had the hand-me-down.

I also went to a baby group today with other babies dressed up! DD is 9 months and I just couldn't reckon with buying an outfit for one day when she doesn't know what's going on anyway. The dressed up babies were cute though!

It's just super cute so I did. Two free hand me down dresseses from cousin last year when my baby was 10 months. My 6 month wore those this year (tho they were 9-12 months so huge), also did photo with her in a pumpkin - cost £2 & used the 'guts' for cookies, muffins and in a curry. Super cute photo.

My 22 month girl wore a hand me down vampire outfit. And I bought a £2 pumpkin jumper. Which she's worn around 5 times and baby will wear next year.

Actual outfits they both wore twice, Halloween themed stay & Play last week and Halloween playgroup today.

I'm not 'into' Halloween myself. And don't dress up or decorate the house etc.

I bought a little outfit off vinted and grandparents also bought her an outfit. I think it's lovely to look back on the photos and no harm if you've the money and want to. DD did attend some family Halloween events so nice she had a costume on like her cousins. I put her outfit on today while we had our normal day, it's a bit of fun

Our creche had a library of outfits rented out for Halloween for a small donation to ChildLine. We always took part love Halloween 🎃

No. We never have.

Honestly there's so many killjoys on this thread. Yes there's no point and they won't remember it but it can be have a fun memory for parents to have not to mention the cute pictures.

Mine dressed in a pumpkin onsie last year at 6 months. This year I got him 3 separate outfits for parties he had plus a pumpkin outfit set. My parents never did anything for us for Halloween when we were little, no trick or treating and I used to feel really left out that everyone else was having fun so probably why I want to overcompensate now!
