4 week old is already being treated for reflux, but Omeprozole isnt fully working, she’s still struggling,
has other symptoms of CMPA - struggling, gas, reflux, hiccups, fussy, legs up /kicking and crying.
shes on hipp comfort - is this poop normal or does it look like a CMPA poo?

I would be inclined to say normal poop, my baby's nappy's looked like this, and she doesn't have CMPA. All of those symptoms are conjunctive with reflux.

I know that there's a thing called 'acid battle' when babies are on omeprazole, it's basically their body getting used to being on a PPI. A 4 week old is also still learning how to poop, and it's uncomfortable for them.

It gets better, promise ❤️

I'm not sure where hipp comfort falls in the scale of formula but for most of the hypoallergenic formula khaki green is the normal colour of poos

It can take time for omperazole to take effect. There is the acid battle during the first couple of weeks and it can take a few dose increases to get to the right dose for you child. My daughter needed to top dose and then other medication too

My LO was on Hipp comfort and his was horrible and green as well. Really loose. I’ve never really had the ‘peanut butter’ texture that it should apparently be. Looks normal for the milk they are on I’d say x

Looks green, with a little bit of mucous and some white, fatty lumps. That’s a lot what my daughter’s poops were like (though much more mucous) She had cmpa and egg allergy. Diavovered when we tried to wean and she broke out in hives.

I haven't looked at your photo. But DD has CMPA, when she was in nappies they were mucousy with strands of blood. TMI, but if I folded a dirty nappy, then opened it out, the strands of mucous just stretched between each side of the nappy 🤢.

It’s fine I would say!

My CMPA babies were breastfed so different poo, but agree with the advice oster who said about the stringy mucous being the telltale sign for us. This doesn’t look like allergy poo to me.

Mamabear345 · 01/11/2023 19:34

Update - we switched to regular HIPP and her poop turned back yellow!
however… is this mucus??

more background.. as well as reflux meds, she now is being treated for an eczema rash.

Eczema is an inflammatory response, which in a human that young will be stemming from the gut. It could very easily be an allergy in combination with the disruption Omeprazole causes.

The frequent hiccups is also a sign of a oral tie; excess air intake and allergies cause almost every case of reflux. Newborns (as a generalisation) don't have 'acid issues' in the same way adults do, but they are treated the same because Western medicine don't care to resolve root causes.

Doesn’t look like mucous but doesn’t look good to me. Why not try going dairy free and see if it helps. That’s the only way to know really.
