due to have my 2nd in 2 months and it looks like it’ll be an ELCS due to previous c section

I am very nervous about recovery 2nd time round. It wasn’t too bad first time but I could rest when DS slept erc

Ds will be 2 before I have DD, so still young and still understanding some things but not everything.

im
very nervous any tips please

I’m currently 3 weeks post elective section and also have an almost 3 year old. I’ve been so surprised how easy the recovery has been compared to my emergency with my first. My little one is in nursery 3.5 days though which has helped massively so if you are able to have some childcare for when your partner goes back to work, I would recommend it

I had a emcs and had 4 kids to look after (newborn then 3 others who were still young) I managed as a single parent (I was on my own) it’s not easy but it was manageable

I'm tagging along on this thread because I'm in the same situation- due mid December! But my dd will be 3.5yo.

I'm hoping that Christmas (just, in general) will be entertaining enough for dd to keep her occupied in a way that I can sit down while she does stuff... we'll decorate a tree, wrap presents and unwrap other presents, there'll be lots of new toys (because, Christmas) and interesting snacks etc.

Fingers crossed anyway.

I've read/heard that recovery is easier from ELCS than emergency... I'm really hoping so because I remember being basically completely disabled for the first week or so

Mine wasn't good.

My tipz

If your 2 year old can go to childcare do that.

get surgical strength arnica tablets to help recovery from bruising inside and out.

Batch cook and freeze as many meals as your freezer will hold.

Accept all offers of help.

Sod the housework.

Don't be brave - demand good pain killers.

I had a ELCS with my second, emergency with my first.

My eldest was 3 when DS2 was born.

Please rest where you can and have some support to look after your eldest. I ended up doing too much and pushing my body too far thinking I was okay when I wasn't, ended up with an infection and my wound opening back up. Resulted in me being back in hospital after two weeks and on IV antibiotics.

My recovery with my emergency c section was miles better than my elective.

Gosh I'm sorry that sounds awful, I will be really careful to try and prevent this - fwiw though it doesn't sound like it was anything you did wrong, I think that kind of thing can just happen

@Mummy08m thank you, it wasn't pleasant that's for sure! And being back in hospital for 5 days wasn't nice either as it meant being away from my eldest again (baby came into hospital with me).

Honestly I do blame myself, I was running around doing far too much. We had people come over to see me and baby and silly me was running around making tea and trying to look after everyone else! It was only when I started to feel unwell with fever, chills etc that it dawned on me that something wasn't right. Really wish I would have said no to guests and just rested but you live and learn! 9 months pp now and all is well 😊

Wish you all the best

Thank you for your well wishes, I'm so sorry that happened to you. We'll have no guests, not even brief visits, until after Christmas (by my choice, and also because they'll be doing family stuff up north) which will give us a good two or three weeks of quiet time. My dh also has extended pat leave so he can do all the physical play with dd.

Still I'm a bit worried about it all, thank you to op for this thread!

I briefed my 2.5 yo repeatedly in advance that mummy would have a very poorly tummy and wouldn't be able to lift her/be jumped on. Tbf she was the type that took this sort of information in, and my DH was around to do the heavy lifting. Otherwise it was fine.
