Hi so just looking for some general advice or input from an outsider.

I work for the NHS has anyone been offered a new job during mat leave? as I’m changing trusts all accrued AL will have to be used up so I will be starting new post full time. Will they wait and allow me to do this? I was hoping to use AL to get me through spring so mum could help over summer and start child care in sept. Also is it worth starting somewhere completely new, or is it unnecessary stress? Is the grass really greener, or is it better the devil you know?
current; move to it was a mind over matter job promotion. I left a place I loved, past few years tough enough haven’t felt at home, very backward everything seemed like a battle. Heavy on call commitment. Flexible enough, have been good during maternity (I think because of the uncertainty of it). I do have condensed hours and flexible AL.
new job offer: no on call, unsure if I can get condensed hours. Setting up a service so I know it could be tough but done to my standards. I don’t know how flexible the new dept will be and I’m a bit apprehensive starting something new, considering how tough my previous move was. I feel like I’m tainted by that and afraid for the move trying to handle that, going back to work and with a new baby…

Only you can know how much you dislike your current job. In NHS now with jobs being 10 a penny it's not like this will be your only chance to move. Remember when your baby goes to nursery they will catch every bug going. That's stressful in a new job where you've yet to build your reputation for work ethic. Does one have a longer commute than the other? How often do your on calls require going in versus taking a phone call currently?

So I work for the NHS and took a new job in Mat leave, but it was the same department so my manager stayed the same. I had to learn a whole new role but she knew me and how I worked previously. It is something to be considered when taking time off to care for a poorly baby, especially if in nursery. Personally I would have found the move to a whole different department a bit too much and it can take a while to establish yourself. But then again, if your previous job was stressful then you have nothing to lose and the no on call sounds good! X
