Ergobaby Embrace got uncomfortable

Hello,

My DD is 12 weeks old. We currently use the ergobaby embrace carrier. I love that is is stretchy and soft but the heavier she gets the carrier seems to lower more and more on my waist no matter how tight I buckle the waistband and the straps. It also feels heavy on my back and can't go on a proper walk with her in it as we both get uncomfortable.

I watched the videos online and know how to put it on properly. I was wobderinf if anyone else had this issue and if changing to a more sturdy/ structured carrier helps? I was looking at either tula explore or ergobaby omni 360. Thanks!

I switched to the ergobaby 360 when my DS was about 5/6 months as needed something more structured. The embrace is great for the early days though!

I loved our embrace, it should tighten more? we used a good 12-14 months

Also have ergo 360 which was horrible and swapped for Tula. We still use Tula toddler now with 3.5 year old. So I suggest looking at Tula range over ergo

Ah this takes me back! DD is almost 13 now but I carried her pretty much everywhere from birth to around age six. Unless things have changed, the carriers that are perfect for newborns will advertise that they also work for much bigger babies, but they don't really. The bases are usually too narrow, resulting in babies appearing to dangle from the crotch rather than having a nice wide seated position. And that makes it very uncomfortable for the parent and their back.

Something like a Tula should work much better. I had Kinderpacks, which came in several sizes and genuinely had me (a fairly small, at least in ribcage, woman) able to carry DD until quite a while after she started school.

Definitely worth looking at your options to make it work better if you and DD both love babywearing. So many people give up so early, purely because they didn't realise the newborn carriers (stretchy wraps, Baby Bjorn etc) are not really designed for comfort past the newborn stage.

Thanks! Did you gi for hemp or cotton? Not sure if it matters/ makes a difference. @Caspianberg

@KindaNeedHelpMum - the Tula? Ours is cotton I think.

I think the main reason I found ergo 360 bulky was the whole extra stuff to face outwards. So didn’t get Tula that did that, just faces inwards and then the toddler version I use on back

Caspianberg · 24/10/2023 17:42

@KindaNeedHelpMum - it’s the Tula free to grow you probably want rather than the explore

KindaNeedHelpMum · 24/10/2023 17:48

@Caspianberg I was looking at the explore as dd is very eager to face forwards and see everything, she is still toung but always tries to turn and look forwards in the carrier.

@KindaNeedHelpMum - you can face forward with the embrace you have also.

I think it just makes it awkward as they get heavier as weight is off balance when they forward face. And I think it says max 20mins forward facing and not when napping.

Do you have somewhere like John Lewis nearby or other baby shops where you can try various ones on?

KindaNeedHelpMum · 24/10/2023 17:55

@Caspianberg we'll be ordering fron Amazon and rerurn what we don't like, that's how we got to the embrace haha

I know they can't face outwards for too long, will try the explore and free to grow and see which onw works best. Thanks!

@KindaNeedHelpMum - good idea

pamplemoussee · 24/10/2023 18:02

Beco Gemini is a great carrier we loved it

Have you got a local sling library - you could try a few on?

KindaNeedHelpMum · 24/10/2023 21:10

@pamplemoussee Thanks, will look into it, no, unfortunately our city doesn't have one anymore and there aren't any nearby.
