Where do you put your newborns for daytime sleep?

I’m due my second in December. With my first we did contact naps, or he slept in his baby bjorn bouncer with us in the living room. Since then I’ve found out napping in bouncers isn’t exactly safe, but either are those sleepyhead things!

Not going to put a newborn in our room alone to sleep, so where do you put yours?

In the carrycot (either on or off the pram frame), in a sling/carrier, on me, or yes, sometimes in the baby bjorn bouncer on the lowest setting if that's where she fell asleep and someone was there to monitor. I tried to avoid it, but being honest, it happened occasionally. My first also napped in the baby box (we're in Scotland), but DD2 wasn't keen.

If DC2 needs a contact nap sometimes, you get used to reading books, colouring, doing puzzles, etc. with DC1 at the same time. Easier if DC1 is old enough to mostly turn the pages themselves, though.

In a Moses basket in the main living room is best for early days.

We had the Tiny Love 3 in 1 Napper in the living room. It was perfect, and lasted til about 8mo (as a seat for the latter part of that).

Moses basket

Also Moses basket in the lounge for both of mine. It had wheels so I could take them into the kitchen if I was in there.

If I was in the bedroom upstairs, I would put them in the next to me

Carry cot on the pram or travel cot with the baby carrycot section in place

Fispi · 24/10/2023 13:02

On me in a stretchy wrap or in the carry cot part of the pram. I used the pram rather than having a moses basket downstairs but same idea.

LaundryWoes · 24/10/2023 13:03

We had the tiny love 3-in-1 as well. Used for daytime naps until 6m and then as a seat for both DC and then passed on to a friend.

My 3rd went in a sling, in the pram in the hall or in a swing inside a playpen to protect her from siblings.

Caspianberg · 24/10/2023 13:16

Pram carrycot also. Ds never just fell asleep, so it meant I would rock him or go for a walk around the block and park him up to sleep in it. Plus if you already have older child convenient if you want to go out as can just wheel out if walking

I used to put my second baby in the pram body on the dining room table, she was off the floor away from my toddler. When baby number 3 came along a year later, I put him in the pram body in a playpen, safe from both the other two.

If I was in the kitchen, baby came with me and pram body went on kitchen table. Sometimes I left the pram in the hall when we came in from a walk to avoid disturbing the baby. I also left the pram and baby outside by the back door most days as I liked them to get some fresh air.

moses basket downstairs or pram, either inside or outside depending on the weather

VivaVivaa · 24/10/2023 13:26

I’m constantly amazed by newborns that can be put down for naps. DS2 is fed to sleep then popped in the sling. If out and about pram or sling.

None of my three fed to sleep! Even if they dozed off when feeding, they tended to wake up when I winded them before putting them in the cot, so I guess they soon self soothed before sleeping from a very early age.

We had a moses basket but was a waste of money really as he hated it. We had a sleepyhead/ dock a tot that we had on the sofa and he slept soo good in that. We never left the sofa at his side so always had an eye on him
