Nursery - sickness etiquette?

3yo has a visit to nursery tomorrow for a short play session before starting in January. 1 hour session with parent attending. This is the only chance we’ll have to visit the centre. There has been one previous visit when the funded hours placements were allocated but DC had D&V the day before so obviously we didn’t attend.

Naturally, DC has spent this evening sneezing and the nose running. This usually means waking up the next morning with a cold 🙄

Probably a really stupid question but we’ve never used nursery/childminder or anything before so I’m not actually sure what the done thing is - do you keep them off for a cold if they have a runny or stuffy nose and no other symptoms?

Obviously D&V/temperature etc they’re kept off but beyond that I’m clueless 😬 I think it’s probably better to keep him away to stop others getting the germs but DH is firmly of the opinion that “kids that age are always snotty” 🙄

Nursery is a sea of snot, they'd never be in if you kept them off snotty. If they're OK in themselves and no raging temp they go in. Hope the session goes well

Fine to go with a cold unless there's a fever or upset etc.

@MissHoollie Thank you 😊

@QuiltedHippo Thank you 😊 DC isn’t overly fond of other children 😬 We do at least 3 groups a week involving other kids but DC just isn’t up for being too close to any of them 😬 Really hoping nursery will change things 🤞🏼
We have no other children in the family (the next youngest is 19 😅) and we relocated while I was pregnant and in lockdown so I don’t really have any close friends with kids nearby.
So I’m really quite nervous about how tomorrow will go 🤞🏼😬

So long as he doesn't have a temperature he's fine.

@Arghghghghfg Thank you 😊 runny nose this morning but absolutely fine other than that 😊🤞🏼

Mild colds and runny noses are fine.
The ones to keep them off for are S+D/temp/fever or where it's obvious that they're not feeling themselves.

@LolaSmiles Perfect, thank you 😊 Would definitely keep DC at home in those circumstances
