or any other ideas?

we fancy a weekend away, me dh and dd
only trouble is where is dd going to sleep?

our ideas are

quinny on flat position
our hotel bed
ask the hotel if they have cots- although are they skanky
travel cot[although may be a waste of space and time and money for one night ]

I'd first ask the hotel. Then consider either making up a bed on the floor for her with blankets or letting her co-sleep. Or asking friends if they have a travel cot to lend you.

oh thanks cory we never thought of that, got any ideas where we could go maybe around easter time ?

We've used the hotel's own travel cots, with their sheet and our sleeping bag. Have never had a notably skanky one, and must have done it half a dozen times.

you can pick up a travel cot for about £30 comes in handy if your dd may stay at grandparents house or anywhere else you might be able to pick one up from ebay pretty cheap aswell.

I'd co-sleep.

We've stayed in 3 hotels and used thier travel cots, which have been fine. The only problem we found (and dd was about a year old) was getting her to sleep when we had to be in the same room. She was fine once she was asleep - we could have the tv on or the light on and read but had some trouble getting her off to sleep in a strange place with us in the room.

Enjoy your weekend away!

lionbeast · 09/03/2008 00:33

we took dd away when she was 3 months, to brighton and she slept in the pram no problems
although shes too big for that now

unless she goes in her quinny on flat but i dont think that would be very good for her all night

Hotels tend to have cots - never had a problem.

often hotel cots are travel cots anyway. If you are worried they start from around £30 new , cheaper 2nd hand or on ebay , or perhaps a friend has one you could borrow ?

Hotels always have travel cots, take your own bedding and it will be fine. That said, we always have DD (22months) in the giant hotel bed with us and it's ok.

Something to think about: when you stay in a hotel, you have to go to bed when your kid goes to bed unless she is a super heavy sleeper. Last time we went away DH ended up hanging out in the bathroom after DD went to sleep. Not too much fun. If you can find a self catering flat you can at least watch tv, cook a nice dinner, etc after she's asleep. And you won't have to worry about breakfast.

Have fun! I love mini-breaks. Where are you going?

lionbeast · 09/03/2008 17:55

ok great, ill see if anyone has a travel cot, if not ill ask where we stay at, or dd can snuggle up with us for the night.
thats dd sorted

now ideas where to go! i thought of goping to bath but i really want to go to that new swimming pool but kids and babies are not allowed! how bloody rude!

anyway i also fancy a nice beach place i love brighton and bournemouth and sandbanks although wouldn't mind trying somwhere different

Co sleep or take your own travel cot. But if DD is mobile or inquisitive, get the one from the hotel as well. You keep the suitcases in the hotel one to stop them being unpacked by baby.
They will then give you sheets for that cot too, which you can use on the floor to make DD a clean play surface. (hotel carpets = skanky)
