Three Week Old - Congestion

Hello

My three week old has had awful congestion for the last two weeks and although the HV has assured me it’s nothing to worry about and probably a result of the time of year, heating now being on etc, and it’ll pass. I just wondered how long I can expect it to take as he is struggling to sleep at night?

During the day he sounds a bit snuffly but doesn’t really sneeze or have a snotty nose but at night his chest sounds really congested and after a few hours of being on his back in his cot he can’t sleep anymore.

We are using saline spray and I have ordered from Snuffle Baby oil to put in a warm bowl of water next to his crib. We also have a humidifier but we’ve had it for a week or more and it doesn’t seem to be improving.

someone mentioned it could be due to CMPA or lactose intolerance but he doesn’t have any other symptoms except that he suffers from trapped wind due to me having a fast let down and I can now manage this by removing him from the breast and collecting my let down.

Any advice would be appreciated - would really love to know that there is hope of some sleep in the near future!

When he gets congested, is his chest sucking in at all when he breathes? In fact, forget that, with such a little baby with anything like that I think they should be seen by a doctor. I would take him into the GP and keep a close eye over the weekend,

I have a 4m old and she has had 2 colds so far and been very congested.
Recommend the saline spray and a snot sucker (sounds gross but work great!). I asked the HV and they also said to raise one end of the cot so not completely flat but I always thought that wasn't recommended.
It always sounds worse because they can't breathe through their mouth yet.
The calpol plug ins are great but think they're from 3m+
There's loads going round at the minute! If you're concerned then 111 or GP but tbh I haven't done for congestion as we had colds too so knew what it was.
