Baby winter Clothes

Baby is 9 months and I have a range of winter clothing but I never know what to put him in especially for the car seat as I know no thick coats etc

today eg, went to supermarket in this weather, he had on a vest and sleepsuit and a fluffy jacket thing with a hood and blanket over him in the car. Ideally I would want him in a pramsuit as it was wet and very cold walking to the supermarket through car park etc. plus his legs don’t have much cover he kicks off the blanket in the pram and the foot cover thing you attach to the pram

or when going for a walk but going in the car first, do you change into the pramsuit/coat when you get to the destination?

I have a 9 month old and also have been struggling with the no coat in the car seat thing in this weather!

I have been putting him in trousers and a jumper then just legging it to the car with him kind of wrapped up in my coat then put a blanket over his legs in the car. We then put on coat once we get to the destination - his coat is a thick jacket at the moment I’ve bought a pram suit but it’s very thick not really felt cold enough yet.

I tend to set up park up, set up the pram in the reclining position with his coat laid out ready to place him on/in it then quickly zip him in to minimise how long he’s outside without a coat on. Not easy is it 🤣 maybe someone will come along with some good advice for us!

It can be a real faff taking coats/suits off and on but yes that's essentially what I'd do. If just travelling from the car to the supermarket with a pram then would more likely do a blanket (as the supermarket is inside anyway), if going on a longer walk then would put the pram suit or coat on after the car. We did a lot of baby wearing so would actually just zip them into my coat rather than putting the layers on them directly.

Being cold for a few moments or minutes won't do them any damage. You both got this 🙌

Supermarket - is the family parking not near the entrance? I’d layer baby up at home (vest, underlay) and dash in as pp said. Same as swimming etc.

Longer outside - put on coat/Pramsuit after parking.

good luck :)

I bought an all in one fleece sleepsuit/ onesie type thing for this very purpose - most places sell them, I got one from next wjth a little hood. Use it as a coat, put it on before you leave the house, over their clothes. I found that it was warm enough to be equivalent to a coat but thin enough that you could use it in the car seat. (I actually did the test where you buckle in with it on and then take it off them and do it up again to see if it was safe)

They're zip up, and the older ages have footless for putting shoes on too.

Like PP we had a thin all in one, it’s an outdoor suit but thin so acts as an extra layer without bulk. Regularly dress DS in an extra vest too. I’m big on blankets if he’s not in the carrier. In general we favour layers over bulky/puffy coats so compression is less of an issue. We use snowsuits if very very cold but I’d just put him in it when we arrive.
