I really ought to have a go at cloth nappies again - looking for expert advice

DD was partly in cotton tots bots for the first two months. Then they didn't seem to fit her properly and I got lazy and kept her in disposables. Please form an orderly queue for my beating .

Anyway, as I'm starting a new job soon for an environmental type organisation I'd better get my arse out of the comfy chair and start using cloth at least part-time.

So, what would you experts recommend for a 9mo who currently must be 79cms and about 23lbs so v v tall and a bit on the skinny side.

I liked the cotton tots. I've already got some bumbles (commence second beating ) that will probably fit her but I don't like their bulkiness.

the tots bots bamboozles are nice cos they are very slim fitting take a while to dry tho but stay soft altho i stilll prefer the mothercare terry squares cos they dry quick u can 90wash them and u can get them to any size

I like Motherease BTP and One Life with a Motherease wrap. My son is tall and skinny, and they fit really nicely, with minimum bulk!

I was lazy for the first few months and as my son has got older, I find it easier and easier to use cloth!

I love lollipop bamboo ones. And, unlike the tots bots bamboo they have an extra bit of velcro so you can wrap the fastner bit over itself, which would give you a snugger fit on a skinny baba.

I find for day-in day-out use that velcro fasteners are quicker and easier than poppers. Especially now ds (10m) has started to wriggle like mad when changing! Although poppers give a better fit on the wrap.

Good luck, hope it's easier 2nd time round

I've got some bambinex on ebay now 25 nappies some new most hardly used with some wraps etc £100 BIN!!!! (shhhh don't tell ebay) Am happy to split if you want fewer nappies than 25.

I've also got a wonderful hemp all in one system, easy peasy to use very absorbant and reliable - they go on like an all in one then come apart for quicker washing and drying but are not a pocket nappy - they are the most reliable nappy I ever used. I've got 21 of those 6 popper wraps, 3 velcro wraps.

My dd was slim until she potty trained and both fitted her fine.

I agree with mammatulip too - they are the best! I've got 3 for sale that would fit a 23lber!

omg a flood of information. Now I remember how hard this decision was last time. I was thinking of bamboozles as I liked the cotton tots but I'll have a nosy at these other bamboo options.

How are they at, ahem, poo containment?

I have Wamabamboos (now bambinex) ones and they are very slim fitting. I do find that sometimes it doesn't keep all the poo in. (My lo is also v slim). Flame would be able to tell you if the design has changed at all.

I find the best for containment are Mother-Ease Sandys (during the day).

Motherease wraps are great. I also like my Weenotions wrap.

CarGirl · 08/03/2008 20:20

both bamboozles and bambines are okay with poo containment but not as good as my hemprestos simply because they are slimmer cut around the buttocks!

bambineo/bambinex have slightly longer pile than geobel label ones - I haven't noticed any difference as I used I mixture of both. I agree I had pooh leaks onto my airflows but not onto clothes! I don't like my bamboozles much tbh.

GerrardWinstanley · 08/03/2008 20:42

interesting - I stopped using the cotton tots I had because they seemed to be sitting too low on her so it looks like the bambineo/bambinex might be a better bet than the bamboozles. She shows no signs of slowing down her ridiculous growth so I am a bit worried about spending a lot of money on nappies and finding she's too lanky for them six months down the line.

go on buy some of mine - I've got a listing on the for sale nappies bit. I do agree trying a few 2nd hand is the way to go and I don't think bamboozles would suit the bambinex are very very long in the rise.

curlywurlycremeegg · 09/03/2008 08:59

GW, I would say deffinatlty a Bambinex if you want a two part system or a Fuzzi Bunz pocket for ease of use

CarGirl · 09/03/2008 09:42

Fuzzi Bunz pockets are easy to use but def try before you buy loads of pockets as my dds alway had wee leaks in them the were power wee'ers and the pockets just didn't cope, hence I ended up with HemPresto as they are as reliable as a 2 part system and as easy as pockets.
