One year old still loves to be baby worn

Evening all. My one year old still loves to be popped in the sling and “baby worn”. I swear she’d want to be in the sling all day if she could. Is this normal? I don’t mind I get extra cuddles of course but interested in others experiences 🙂

I'd say mine was about 3 1/2 when we stopped, I know some people wear later though.

I was still carrying in a sling at that stage - at times!! Really loved it and kept going until children were older, they slowly outgrew it.

Ds transferred from front to back carry but was about 2 1/2 before we started doing it less. Completely normal. I loved that front carry, felt lovely and snuggly. He is 17 now and he towers over me, so hugs feel very different. Enjoy it while you can.

yeah both of mine were being "worn" in some thing or another until 3 or even 4

Think it's great and I got a lot more done, hiked a lot

BFFfan · 18/10/2023 17:42

I did it to about 4 with DD. (Sen) only stopped for my back. Each child is different, whatever works.

WhatNoRaisins · 18/10/2023 17:42

I still did sling naps with mine at well over one.

Shopper727 · 18/10/2023 17:43

I work in a job where many babies come to see me and the majority of over ones are in slings/etc due to area and transport I couldn’t due to back issues but if baby is happy and you don’t mind carry on. Looks lovely way of bonding

CeeceeBloomingdale · 18/10/2023 17:59

Totally normal and common in toddlerhood. I probably stopped altogether when they were about 3 but that was due to back problems.

Beachwaves127 · 18/10/2023 18:01

Ah fine!! Glad we’re normal then!! Thanks everyone :)

Now I’m wondering whether in the stone ages they made baby slings out of anything they could find or just carried babies around 🤣

It can't be good for your back.

WhatNoRaisins · 18/10/2023 19:08

I think it would be hard to start wearing a one year old but if you've been doing it since they were young you often don't notice them getting heavier. It is important to get a decent carrier that's well fitted to distribute the weight equally over the hips and shoulders.

DappledThings · 18/10/2023 22:01

I carried both of mine in the sling up to about 3 and a half. Only moved from front to back at about 18 months.

In the Stone Age, mothers wound have used animal skins.

I carried dd until she was 18 months old. I could never get the hand of back carry so then gave up. I loved carrying her and was so disappointed dc2 couldn't be carried because he has a habit of pinching and pulling hair so it was too painful.

It's totally fine if you have the right sling! The toddler carrier that we had distributed the weight onto the hips, like a big hiking rucksack. I occasionally carried DD home from school in it when she was in reception; my back is unscathed.

Yes, I agree the rucksack are fine on your back, but not sure about a sling with a larger baby as it doesn't distribute the baby's weight evenly.

Like I say, depends on the sling.

Why wouldn’t it be normal? Confused

You should only be concerned if baby has no interest in being close to their primary caregiver.
