Pocket money for 6 year old

I've set up a digital pot so my 6 year old can see savings because the money jar gets emptied all over the house and money ends up lost (suspected ND).

However, how much is the going rate for pocket money for a 6 year old these days? We were thinking a flat rate of £2 with additional bits and bobs around the house earning them more.

We did £2/week throughout primary and £5/wk in secondary (plus bus fare, money for school canteen, phone contract) which seems to be less than their friends get, but an incentive to earn some. My 9 yr old has a micro business making keyrings, 13 yr old moans about not having money but won’t get off his bottom, 16yr old has a part time job. They have Starling cards which are now free if a parent has an account.

What do you want him to spend his pocket money on? If it's a copy of the Beano each week then it's about a fiver you need to give him. If it's for a treat bag of sweets once a week then you can give him £1.
You need to decide what you want him to be doing with his money before deciding an amount.

I think £2 a week is perfect.

Unless, you're expecting him to start buying himself anything other than sweets/saving up for a toy.

I was giving my almost 6 year old 50p but we’ve just been out today to spend a few week’s worth and it didn’t go far so he’ll be getting £1 from now on or £2 if he takes on an extra chore. We’ll let him choose.
