13mo just wanting milk after croup, is this normal?

He normally loves his food, but he's been rejecting everything (porridge, toast, banana, yoghurt, pasta, even organix bar, all rejected.) He literally just wants milk.

He's had steroids. Currently asleep again. Wondering if I should keep offering food or just let him have tonnes of milk? He's been crying a lot too.

His throat/airway is likely to still be really sore, milk won't hurt at all. Anything like toast is going to be scratchy. Keep going with paracetamol/ibuprofen regularly too.

He'll get his appetite back when he's recovered. My DC all used to get croup and it knocked them sideways for a good week usually.

Agree with pp, give him what he wants for now.
Appetite will soon come back once he's 100%

Thank you, it seems really nasty

We normally try to get out of the house to somewhere green at least once a day when he's not at nursery. Should we still try today or not? He is crying a lot, but currently quote happily demolishing his fourth bottle

I'd keep him in the warm indoors, and let him rest. There's plenty of time for walks and doing things when he's better. A warm bath might soothe him a little, especially with lots of toys in - and the steam will help with his airway.

@SkyFullofStars1975 you're probably right. I might do a lovely bath. Selfishly I want to put him in the running buggy and run somewhere but I don't want to do anything that might make his worse. He just wants to sleep and cry and cuddle and drink milk

Awww, poor baby 💔 Do offer soft food but don't force it. Grown ups don't have an appetite when we're unwell. Good that he's having milk - that's fluids and some nutrition, so definitely better than nothing! Appetite will come back when he's feeling better.

He's not eating today either. Had a litre of milk yesterday and 500ml last night, crazy amounts.

He's also crying a lot. I've put him in front of miss Rachel so I can clean. The cough seems a lot better I think, although he's still having coughing fits occasionally and now bringing up yellow mucous which he wasn't before.

He normally loves porridge with honey or yoghurt but neither work. Think he's teething too.

Dairy produces more mucous. Ideally he shouldn’t have any. As one of could you give him apple juice or orange juice instead?

theotherfossilsister · 14/10/2023 09:48

He's actually on oatly (but has milk based yoghurt.) Was moved onto it by consulant

I could try apple juice but last tle he refused it. He prefers water.

Not a doctor but that's what's described as a productive cough. He's probably quite sore and chesty, DD2 went onto milk solely after a bad dose of something around the same age.

Can your partner do cuddles while you have a quick run? Perfect opportunity to catch some sport and some quality time. Hey Duggee if toddler is alert, it's subversive enough to be mildly amusing for adults.
