I know this isn't a serious problem by any means but it is getting me down. My dd (18 months) will not tolerate the raincover over her when in the pushchair. It's becoming so when it's raining we have to avoid going out (i don't drive atm) It seems to be raining all the time and we are spending far too much time at home but she will scream constantly if in the pushchair with raincover. Has anyone any experience of this and any ideas how to overcome this. I have tried giving her things to occupy her but that doesn't work. Help!

Ds2 also has a screaming frenzy if the raincover goes on. He won't hold an umbrella (though your dd might) so I have to make him as waterproof as possible. He has a rainmac that fits over his coat and a waterproof hat and wellies. If it's not too windy I take an umbrella that I can hold over both of us while pushing his pushchair. This will probably only work though if the pushchair is easy to steer.

Or how about a cute mac/hat combo and let her feel the rain on her face? Must admit I have some sympathy for her- I remember thinking that I wouldn't have liked to travel under a rain cover when my boys were small enough to use a buggy. They seemed to quite like theirs though.

you can get ponchos (waterproof) that fit over the child and the buggy at the same time, only their face pokes through!

have to go just now but ill have a look around for you and send you a link if you like.

I had this when ds2 was younger.
I think it was partly my own fault. What happened at first was he cried when i put the raincover on, so to save me getting a headache, would run for cover somewhere and take it off, or if it wasn't raining too hard, just put the hood up on his buggy instead.
Problem being, he then screamed each time - louder and louder until i give in again.
In the end, i decided to just let him scream, and keep saying "no - i am not taking your raincover off, you will get wet."
But instead of doing it in town or somewhere busy, i took him for a walk just around and about where we live and just let him scream.
It didn't take long for him to realise that i wasn't going to give in no matter how much he screamed, and he soon stopped.
He still doesn't like it on now btw, and he is 3 in March!!

I had one of those ponchos Nailpolish mentioned for DS when he was little. It worked a treat and DS loved it because it had a little peaked cap for him and then just draped over him and snapped onto the buggy with elastic. Sorry, bought it in Denmark where they are commonplace so can't advise there. I think the problem with normal raincovers is that the child feels 'boxed in'.

oooh some brilliant ideas, i like the poncho one where her face pokes out. I can imagine she'd look quite cute in one of those. I think I'll definately have to get something as we really can't sit in every time it rains.

posts crossed, albert. I think that's what her problem is, she feels claustrophobic (sp?) The only problem is she doesn't like hats either and tries to pull them off. Would she be able to do this with a poncho?

My son has always hated raincovers but wouldn't tolerate the poncho things either. Have you got the apron type raincover that attaches to the hood of the buggy? We find that if we just attach it at the sides and bottom and leave the top bit folded down for him to look over he is fine. With the hood up as well most of him stays dry unless it is really windy.

thanks for the link nailpolish. that looks good and she definately wouldnt' be able to get out of that without help.

whitepixmas, our raincover goes on the hood but zips round IYKWIM. We wouldn't be able to leave any exposed. I think i'll give the poncho a go. at a tenner it's not the end of the world if it doesn't work.

thanks for all the help and advice you wonderful lot
