Toys and games for 27m old

Hello!

Looking for recommendations for toys/games for a 2-3yr old. DS and I spend lots of time playing outside, but suggestions for indoor activities for the winter would be great. Feel like we're stuck in a rut playing with cars/pretending to be cars and running round the flat!

What does your toddler like to do?

Thanks 🙏

A toy kitchen from market place and loads of food and pans.

Magnetic tiles.

Duplo.

Paint and a bowl of water, paint something, wash it.

Doctors kit.

Ooh painting things and washing them sounds like it would keep him entertained for a while.

We do have some Duplo actually - maybe I'll get it out and see if he's interested.

Thanks 😊

Mine loves those puzzles which are wooden boards that you put the shapes in.
Orchard Toys simple matching or counting card card games (especially the farmyard heads and tails)
Duplo

Drawing stuff. Mine LOVE the chubb paint pens, and they wash off walls/out of clothes etc. Whiteboard and pens also a big winner in this house. Potential for mess though, you have to watch them a lot to start with.

Busy books -there are massive numbers of these, we keep them on rotation for when I want to beleft alone to cook!

Seconding duplo/mega blocks. But then you have to tidy them up...Mine "help" but not very effectively so there's always clean up time for me. DH hates it for that reason.

Playdough for wet weather.... but do you have hard floors or carpet? We have laminate in the playroom, but had carpet when eldest was little and it could be a bit of a nightmare of you trod it in.

In all honesty we still try to get out lots durijg the day, its only the dark evenings that we really hit the toys. Autumn has puddles to jump in, leaves to kick, donkeys and acorns to discover/pile up.... and playgrounds are still fun as long as everyone is wrapped up warm. I'm a form believer that toddlers are like Labradors and need walking twice a day or they misbehave...

Conkers not donkeys! Autocorrect

Oh, if he likes cars, brio trainset might be a winner.....

Or farm set with tractors.

I've just cut "windows" out of a cardboard box. Her favourite stuffed toys are in there, with the "door" closed (the box is on its side and the door =the lid really), and she's just starting to make up little scenarios where they knock on the door and have a cup of tea whilst looking out of the windows. Similarly she will take them for walks in a toy buggy around the ground floor of the house.

Duplo, and wooden building blocks.

Books, books and more books. Then some more books after that. I caught her showing one of her teddy bears a book last week :)

Going through my handbag, or a box of "goodies", taking everything out, examining it then putting (some of it) back in again. Always a winner!

She's slightly younger (coming up 26 months) and as she's my DGD she doesn't live here so it probably helps that she only gets to play with the toys here once or twice a week.

Thanks everyone!

@TinyTeacher we're definitely still going out ☺️I sometimes feel bad about the amount of time we spend outside vs playing indoors, as it keeps me sane, but I wonder if he'd also benefit from more time playing with toys with me and role playing.

We have carpets - but have a big kitchen table that would do for playdoh.

Haha actually it's a shame there aren't donkeys to discover.

@Juicyjuicymango he enjoys playing with those wooden boards at playgroup - I'll take a look on vinted, I bet there will be loads second hand on there.

I've just thought sticker books might be good as well?

I'll have a look at the chubb pens. His style of painting atm is driving his cars through paint 😂 he's so vehicle oriented! He does enjoy his brio too.

Does anyone do baking? He made some biscuits at nursery the other day (a gruesome eyeball cookie to be exact) which made me think we could start doing more baking at home too.

I love the home made "dolls house" idea @mauvish that sounds great. Next time we get a big box we'll get creative.

He'll happily sit and read with me at bed time, but has started to refuse to read at other times. Hopefully he'll get back into it if I keep trying.

Great suggestions so far ☺️

oh. my DGD would refuse to go home if there were sticker books here!

Mine is 27 months. We have just bought him a doll's house. He absolutely loves it. He also has a toy kitchen which he spends quite a bit of time "making dinner".

playdough is a hit but it's not allowed upstairs as I have carpet up there🙈

toy garage which he uses his wooden shapes to skite down the ramp over and over😂
