Baby biting and suddenly stopped breastfeeding 11.5 months

My baby (until today) is breastfed. She will breastfeed 3-4 times a day and 2-3 times over night. I feed her to sleep. She loves it.

She is teething and has suddenly stopped feeding. She is BITING down instead. I have tried saying “no biting” and giving her a break and tried again - same thing. Biting and no sucking at all. She hasn’t breastfed in 24 hours. She has taken water today from a cup but np milk and does not take a bottle. I’m engorged on one side and have had to hand express toduy to relieve the pressure.

Can my baby go from being obsessed with the breast to completely weaning suddenly? Please help and share

Happened to me at a similar age with my first. I just thought he was done with BF. I was young and didn’t know to find out if there was a work around.

My DD did this for a couple of days around 10mths. Both the biting of my nipples and the engorgement were really painful. I think it was just a growth/developmental spurt. She started feeding again a couple of days later and we carried on until 15 mths. When we had interruptions like this, I tended to take her to bed, strip us both off so we could do skin to skin and not have any distractions so that feeding was the most interesting thing to do. I am wincing at the memory of how much her tiny teeth hurt!

I had one that did this around a similar age. I wondered if he was weaning himself, which was a bit early for me as I had no plan to use formula. It lasted for 2-3 weeks, until the teeth came through. Then he started again and went on to nurse for many months more.

I think it's probably just the teething. They can go through nursing strikes sometimes. I'd just keep offering the breast and she how she goes. You could express into a cup and offer her milk that way? If it lasts much longer and she has less wet/dirty nappies you could call HV.
