Diagnosing 2yr old Celiacs disease

I'm getting to my wits end with working out what's happening with my two year old. For over six months now she's had extreme bloating, wind, on and off diarrhea and sickness.
HV has weighed her once in that time and said she was on track but she looks and feels skinny to me , her arms are tiny her feet haven't grown in nearly a year yet she has this massive belly by the end of each day.
Doctors won't do testing for gluten intolerance so does anyone have any suggestions ?
How long should I try a gluten free diet to see a difference at her age or should I look into private testing ? Is that even a thing for her age ?
I really want to help my poor little poppet. Any advice is welcome !

Why won’t they test? For a child it’s a blood test, which I appreciate could be tricky on a 2yo and maybe need referring to hospital but bloated abdomen and abdominal/digestion issues seems reason enough for it to be a suspicion?

Our hospital trust don't test for under 4. They asked us to do 6 months dietary changes because when she was weighed she was 'on track'
I have asked for her to be weighed again as last time was 3 months ago but the service where we live is very stretched.

It sounds extreme but go straight to a whole food meat based diet. Meat, specfically beef, prefferably fatty, prefferably liver. Yeah, sounds gross, but it is nutritionally complete and has nothing that can irritate the intestines.
Either way, if you think it is gluten, just cut it out. Humans do not need gluten at all.

How ridiculous. DD was 3 when she was diagnosed. I did have to push for an answer as she was starting school. I can’t see why they are leaving it, our paediatrician said the earlier the better as you are minimising damage.
The problem with removing gluten yourself is you then have to reintroduce it for an an ‘official diagnosis’.
Havr you tried a different doctor in the practice, I had to go back several times. At the end of the day at this stage it’s a blood test they should just rule it out.

Thanks for this. I feel like I have been pushing and pushing but they wont entertain it if she's on track for height and weight which she is so makes me think am I paranoid.
She has a really rounded belly at the end of the day which HV says is normal.

DD was also totally normal for height and weight when she was diagnosed. I didn’t even realise the rounded stomach until afterwards. She just had bowel issues, they started only taking notice as I couldn’t send her to school the way she was.

Yeh my little one is having a lot of time off nursery for the random vomits and diarrhea she has. Maybe I should use that as a tack to escalate with the doctors and HV ! Thank you

Look up the coeliac_dietician on Instagram - good advice and guidance around testing etc

Hungrycaterpillarsmummy · 08/10/2023 21:59

Could she actually be impacted with poo? Runny poo can go around the blockage.
Bad impaction can cause sickness.

How often does she poo and what is the consistency?

Do they want you to cut out gluten for 6 months? I wouldn't do that without a diagnosis, she'd have to start eating it again if you ever wanted her actually tested.

Is her age their only reason for declining to test, rather than a medical reason why it's unlikely to be positive? If so, is it an option for you to have a blood test done privately?

IAmHeartless · 08/10/2023 22:07

Cutting out gluten means reintroducing it for 6weeks to test. I don’t understand the not testing until 4! Get her weighed again. Can you afford a private op-eds appointment and specifically ask for a blood test for coeliacs?

Ivebeentogeorgia · 08/10/2023 22:09

Can you go private for a blood test?
