Took my just turned two year old for a taster session today. He had a fabulous time and enjoyed running after the other kids, stealing the balls and ignoring any instructions whatsoever. On the other hand, I’ve come away feeling rather stressed from the experience.

The group is for 2-3.5 year olds so he was literally the youngest there but I’m wondering if he is actually a bit too young and I should wait another six months when his concentration is a little better? Or do most kids start off behaving like mad little gremlins and just get better over time? DH thinks “he wasn’t that bad” and we should just persevere with it but interested to know if others have been through the same thing and what they did.

Similar situation to you but with football! I've been going a few months now and it is still chaos, but he enjoys part of it each week and it's the same for everyone else in the group. I'd persevere if it's something reasonably enjoyable that gets you out of the house...

My husband is rugby mad so was very keen for DS to do it, but we waited until he was old enough to join the mini rugby at the local club which was reception age. The reason for this was DH wanted him to learn both the sport and the team aspect properly and have the pride of playing for the local team.

However if this is more just for fun, it doesn't sound like your DC did anything wrong!

Unless your DS is ruining it for all the other children then I dont see the harm in continuing if he is happy and the coaches are happy. I mean he isnt really going to learn how to play rugby at that age.

If you just want some kind of fun play activity then keep going.
If you want him to actually learn to play rugby do as above and wait until he is a bit older and join the local clubs session for younger ones where he will learn much more and will go through the ranks with the same kids. My kids did it the second way, they started at 3-5/4 years old and still play now many years on.
