How to celebrate DD's first birthday?

This sounds really silly but I'm not sure how to celebrate my DD's first birthday. It is a little way off yet (January) and I know I don't want the fuss of a party until she's really old enough to enjoy it, so I was just wondering what other parents have done to mark the occasion? Thanks!

Soft play/ a farm visit/ swimming - any activity they would enjoy and then a cake with family

We took her to a soft play that had a good baby section and also went to the zoo. My mum made a cake.

I think the first birthday is more for the parents/family. We had family over, some cake, nice food, etc. Our 1yr old loved being centre of attention!

Hi @Hana89
I just celebrated my daughters 1st birthday.
It was only a few of us but I hired a beautiful back drop for pictures, it had balloons, flowers and butterflies. I got the most beautiful cake too. The pictures looked stunning and it was like we had this huge party but it was only a few of us and honestly the back drop really completed it. Have a lovely day! Xx

On DD's first birthday we stayed at home and played with her presents, then went out for a pub lunch with DH, DM and DSF. At the weekend we went out for lunch with PIL as they couldn't come on her actual birthday.

We did similar on DS's first birthday, but as he was the second born I can't remember quite as well Wink DD was at school, I think I took him to Rhymetime and then we went out for dinner in the same pub as for DD's first birthday (it had a soft play at the time), again with DM and DSF.

We lived far from our parents ; we invited them to stay. Ils stayed for a few days but I think my DPs just came for the day. I have no recollection of my other two children's first birthdays!

For both DD's first birthdays we just had family round for cake at tea time. For poor dd1 it was that weird bit of lockdown when you could only have so many people in the house at once, so we had cupcakes (so no one missed out on the cake/candle situation) and had to schedule family to come round at allocates times! 😂

We had some friends and family around food and cake. Ended up having uninvited guests too and men ended up going out at night and getting home wasted. 😂

We're having a big party for DC when he turns 1 in December at the weekend. On his actual birthday, he'll be at nursery.

We went to aquarium followed by lunch. Just me, dh and ds. I wasn't up to much fuss. It was a nice day though.

No local family so just a quiet day with the 3 of us. Did presents, went swimming (we had swimming that day anyway and she loves it), nap and then cake.

Family came over for a little tea party, had some cake, done!
