6 month old naps

My DD is turning 6 months old on Friday and I'm unsure if her naps are normal for her age or if there's something we could be doing differently.

We keep her awake for around 2 hours and then pop her down for a nap but she will only nap for around 30 mins at a time. She is definitely tired after 2 hours and goes down fairly easily without any fuss.
At night time we put her down between 7:30/8, give her a bottle at around 10:30 and then she will sleep until 5am. I'm assuming this is normal for her age, but I am so not ready to wake up at this time and I am practically peeling myself out of bed lol.
Could we be doing anything differently with her daytime naps? Will there come a point when she sleeps in longer in the morning?

If you give her a bottle at 5 will she go back to sleep for a bit?

It sounds normal though and about right. Daytime nap needs are so variable between different babies. My DS went through phases of having very short naps, when he was a bit older he started having longer ones.

At 6 months the majority of babies can sleep through the night 11-12 hours.

With no feeds? Yes some can, but definitely not the majority.

I dropped the dream feed around 6 months as it was so hard to keep him up.
I would try and do the bottle and then get baby back to sleep with a tummy if you can when they wake at 5am

Hi, so 30 minutes in the morning is okay for her age although this should be 9ish if she would be waking up later! For her next nap after this I would focus on resettling her so she ideally sleeps 2 hours. Look up nap resettling techniques. White noise, dark room; etc. Then a short 30 min nap 2 hours after she wakes in the pm to tide her over until bedtime. Then hopefully she would wake up later in the morning after she gets used to this routine. Although it is normal to have early wakes under 1.

mine never napped consistently until 6-9 months. Just took time for them to sort out napping. Sleep at nighttime wasn’t as good as you have - what @DuploTrain said about milk at 5am and keeping it dark could be worth a try?

My baby is 7 months on Friday and still wakes 3-4 times for feeds every night (EBF), so every baby is different and they won’t all sleep through by this point. In my NCT group of 8 babies of a similar age, only 2 are sleeping 8 or more hours per night without waking for a feed or starting the day early (5am like your baby).

The only way I can get baby to nap longer in the day is for naps to be contact naps…which isn’t always ideal!

Thanks for your replies.

I have been keeping her in a fairly light room as I was worried about her getting daytime and nighttime confused, but I think I will try getting her to nap with the curtains closed and see if that helps as I have seen a lot of people online mention getting them to nap in a dark room.

Also when we feed her at 10pm, she is already fast asleep and we basically have to wake her to change her nappy, get her into her sleeping bag and feed her. Would now be a good time to try dropping that 10pm feed and just putting her down to bed at 8pm and see how she gets on?

I would try dropping the 10pm feed if you have to wake her up specially. It might mean that she sleeps through till 5.

Or.. it might mean she wakes up later in the night for a feed instead… but that could mean that she might be full up and sleep later than 5am.

We went through a period of 5am wakes at this age. It didn't really resolve itself until we went to one nap at about a year old.
