Nursery illnesses

Hi mum,

My daughter started nursery about 4 weeks ago and everytime she is home she comes down with temp, cold or illnesses. It's horrid to see as she's just not herself.

Sounds silly but if i antibacterial her hands before going into nursery would this maybe help prevent germs abit for few hours while in nursery?

She is on multivitamin to help her, anything else or tips would be great help. I understand this happened until they build their immune system up.

Thanks

Tbh, the cliche is a cliche for a reason, but I don’t think any of mine were back to back I’ll like that. Two of three had a sickness bug within a few weeks of starting. And they were generally snotty, but that’s unavoidable. I’d keep an eye on how much nursery she is missing. And then talk to them about it, but don’t let them brush it off as standard, because you’ve said there that she’s been ill with something new every time she’s come home and that seems a bit extreme to me. Frequent bugs are to be expected while their immune systems do their thing; continuous bugs shouldn’t be. Check out their infection control procedures, ask if they’ve had any particular bugs going round.

The antic bac won't make a bit of difference unfortunately. I don't think what you're describing is unusual - we had 3 months like that and I know lots of others who did too. The next 3 months were still hard but not quite such a high frequency of sickness. Since the 6 month point she's not missed a day, only one or two minor colds since the beginning of the year. Hang in there, it does get better eventually.
