My 11 month old has always suffered with trapped wind and a bad belly ever since been a newborn but has eased off since getting older but for the past 4 weeks she has been up all night crying with trapped wind , even when I settle her back off she’s stirring and fidgeting all night long does anyone have any advice on how to stop this or anything I can give her that helps trapped wind ? Thanks!!

Following as my 9 week old was the same last night for the first time ever!

What are you giving her for dinner?

We went through a stage of giving my DS porridge or something else bland for dinner as certain things seemed to really set him off for the night

She literally doesn’t eat anything it’s a night mare so she basically only has her milk more or less 😩 she will just eat little bits of stuff but hardly anything

Is she having quite a big bottle before bed?

Ogc12345 · 03/10/2023 08:40

So she has 5oz at about 7ish before she goes to sleep but i them dream feed her at about 10/11 before I go to sleep I’m really trying to get out of doing this but if I don’t she wakes up at about 12 and won’t go back to sleep until she has a bottle but she also wakes up about 3ish for a bottle too which she won’t go back to sleep until she has one , the dream feed bottle and the middle of night bottle is what is probably giving her the belly ache at night but I can’t get her off them at all!

You can get her off the bottles. She's up screaming all night anyway in pain. Why not stop the night bottles and let her cry for that instead. At least she won't be in pain from a a full stomach and will get used to it.

Do you think I could put water in her bottle instead and when she wakes up give her the water instead of milk?

Sure then she'd have something to drink and may calm her. Try it. Good luck.

Sounds silly but try doing the leg cycling exercises Or tummy massages before bed?

DysmalRadius · 03/10/2023 08:49

Have you tried Dentinox? It's like baby drain cleaner and was the only thing that helped mine when they had bad wind. You can hear it pushing all the farts down almost as soon as they have it!

I don't think you should tbh, at 11 months if her only source of nutrition is milk I think removing a bottle and replacing it with milk would be counter productive.

Hi I tried this when she was younger and it helped loads then I stopped using it then when she got bad again months ago I tired it again and didn’t seem to help that time but I will go and get some today and try it again! Did you put it in the bottle ? I’m sure I did that last time

I wouldn't personally remove the milk and let her cry for it. She's 11 months old and not consuming hardly any food so if you force water on her instead she won't be getting any calories or nutrients.. But yes she might be having too much milk overnight which is making her uncomfortable. Instead try reducing the amount you're giving her at the night time feeds

InTheRainOnATrain · 03/10/2023 13:00

Eating virtually nothing at 11 months isn’t normal and milk alone won’t be meeting her nutritional needs, and could very well be the cause of the discomfort at night. I think you need professional help with her eating tbh so would see the HV and/or GP ASAP and as well as getting their advice I also would ask to be referred to a paediatric dietician. Good luck.
