DD will sit on potty but won't wee on it.

DD aged 2 and half will happily sit on the potty till the cows come home but will only wee in it if you catch her when she is bursting to go.
She will hold in wee for hours (sometimes all day) and then dance around bursting to go. If you sit her on the potty she will mostly still not wee in it.
I tried with proper pants on a few weeks back but after 4 days of puddles I decided she wasn't ready yet.
She is currently in pull ups and sometimes will ask to sit on the potty so we sit there but nothing happens. I have also now go rid of most of the toys next to the potty as I thought she was asking for the potty for attention. (we do play loads together!) I have tried waiting outside the bathroom door incase she wants to be on her own.
She goes to nursery 2 days per week whilst I am working and will sit on the potty there but no wee on there's either.
I am at a loss as to what to do?
It's like she hasn't learnt how to release wee yet or something.
Is it the pull ups, should I put her in proper pants and bite the bullet?

My ds is the same and the same age, I just think he is not ready so there is no use trying, sit back enjoy the fact you know where the wee is ,ie in the nappy and not soaking into the sofa, and try again later.

dd couldntl voluntarily wee for a while . She was around 2 yrs 8 months when she finally could but definitely had been interested in toilet training prior to that.

I don't think she is ready yet either. My DD has been doing this since she was 16 months, she asks for her potty but doesn't yet understand the whole weeing 'mechanism'.

I'd go back to normal nappies instead of pull ups, save some money, and try again when she is older. Maybe come the summer when she can run around outside naked and have accidents to her hearts content, she'll learn to link all the differnt sensations of needing and having a wee. Until then I'd say it's not worth the effort tbh.

good luck

Thanks for that, you have confirmed my thoughts.
DD bless her is so keen on the potty idea and sits down again and says "try again".
I am sticking to sitting her on the potty when she asks to, as I don't want to put her off by saying no.

We have had 2 poos on the potty which we made a big fuss of and she gets a sticker on her chart and a few smarties.
So I think we are on the right track.

I am moving her from her nursery (where nappies are not a problem) to a proper pre-school (where she would need to be toilet trained) when she is 3 in September. This gives us, as you have said, the summer for her to run around in the garden. I am not too fussed about our furniture as our sofa is 12 years old (and comfy!) and we decided not to replace anything until she older.
