Leukaemia or paranoia!

I know this has probably been threaded a few times, and I’ve read through a lot of them.

My son is 2.5 and recently he has some things cropping up making me worried about leukaemia.. but I don’t know if I’m just being anxious.

A couple of weeks ago he randomly got a limp. GP wasn’t worried as he was putting weight on it, not in pain etc. He still has it now but so very slightly it’s not noticeable. I wasn’t happy with GP views on it as it just seemed odd to me with no injury.

He sleeps quite a lot! He sleeps 12+ hours at night and an hour nap in the day, which we cap. He would nap for ages otherwise and affect his bedtime. But between his sleeps he yawns a lot and seems to be tired but not enough that it stops him doing usual activities.

He doesn’t eat as much as he used to, though he DOES eat. Never meals really, only snacks and picks. I know this could be usual toddler behaviour. I’ll weigh him tonight to see where he is on his curve as he hasn’t been weighed in a while so I wouldn’t know if he’s lost weight.

He bruises easily, so many bruises on his legs. Again this could be normal toddler clumsiness!

He seems to get ill regularly but he goes to nursery and again, I know that’s normal..

Of course he doesn’t seem severely unwell or I would have taken him to be seen by now, but it’s these little things accumulating which is making me question it. I’ve also read children with leukaemia not being seriously unwell so I know it’s not mutually exclusive!

I need to book his flu jab in so wondering whether my concerns are enough to raise this too? GP constantly fobs off with ‘viral infection’ .. even his limp was said to be caused by a viral infection..

Thank you if you have read this far!

Hi OP, from what you’ve described I would say these are pretty normal things for yourself and toddler to be experiencing. Although I can see why you’re confused about the limp as I would be too! If you’re not happy or still feel like somethings wrong after seeing the GP, maybe you could ask for a second opinion? If you’re concerned then definitely raise it with your GP, health visitors may be able to give some advice too

Also I don’t know why there’s a Rihanna GIF attached to my reply, definitely didn’t mean to add that!

Why didn't gp refer you for an xray over the limp my LG started limping around age 2 gp sent her for xray straight away hips knees and ankles turns out she had fluid on her knee so she was limping because off that, she also had blood tests done to check for any infections. If your worried get a 2nd opinion.

The limp is odd, but there's nothing here that's particularly screaming leukaemia to me (NB am not a medic). If the bruises were appearing on places toddlers don't usually bruise or taking a long time to fade, that would possibly make me wonder, but legs are a very standard site for toddler bruises.

@Louise20231 Who could give a second opinion other than a health visitor? I could take him to the walk in centre? I thought the Rihanna gif was an advert 🤣

@Bouncyball23 Because he isn’t/wasn’t in pain, walking and jumping normally the GP said he wasn’t worried. He said kids can get hip inflammation from a viral infection but he hadn’t been ill 🤔 the limp is not as bad now, I notice it sometimes. I don’t know where to go from here, I feel GPs always fob off but I feel that’s the general consensus isn’t it 😕

@ShoesoftheWorld Individually they all seem normal, it’s the collective that got me questioning! I haven’t noticed any unusual bruises but I will continue to check him over to make sure. Only seems to be his battle bruises on his legs etc, no doubt from nursery! Thank you

Honestly I think the only other people besides your GP / health visitor would be walk in centre probably, although I’m not 100% sure. There may be consultants on there who may have a better insight

& I know yeah! Confused me there😂

@User175539 Im so sorry I hadn’t replied to this!! So his limp went away - he now wakes multiple times a night but for a while I’ve suspected sleep apnoea. He was referred to ENT back in March and had only just got an appointment for that in January. Still has dark circles under his eyes, tired (though blaming the now constant night wakings). How about you?
