My son is only 11, 12yrs in March however he's had a hormonal growth injection for 5 years now (helps his body catch up in size) this has been said can bring on certain hormones such as spots. He's quite a hygienic kid washes morning and night, drinks plenty of water, by the looks of things he has oily skin and open pours. I think around his age I started to experience the big zits so I used a facial wash which didn't really help tbh when I think about it but hoping something new has arrived that helps your preteen or teenager.

Question: what did you use for your hormonal preteen to help calm spots? (apart from soap and water I'm sick of hearing that, he does that anyways)

Depending on if it’s hormonal teen skin or acne.

My 13yo uses bodyshop tea tree range, cleanser, toner, oil and blemish stick, she has oily skin. She also occasionally uses star face. However she only ever has one or two spots at a time.

My eldest suffers from acne and nothing but roaccutane has ever helped.

I've just got my daughter cereve, Garnier miscellar water and a simple moisturiser.

Only started this week, so not sure how it's going to go, but she's 9 and started with spots and blackheads.

Simple and effective stuff is good for this age.

Older 2 ended up on antibiotics, including oral ones. I think most kids nowadays get oral antiBs unless it's very mild. That's why there is so very little acne on most modern teens.

My younger ones just didn't care very much so didn't do anything.

I had all sorts of treatment, everything but antiBs when I was a teen. I'm glad I didn't have oral antiBs like modern kids do, I don't think it would have agreed with me.

@PinkyU Thank you for your reply, it's not acne more like about 2-3 spots at least every 2 weeks or so, I looking for something gentle for his skin, I'll give the bodyshop a try since I use stuff from their. Thank you

Sounds tight for your DS.

Perhaps change your title to reference face care, you might attract more posters.

@Bubblepopelectric your title really confused me!
Unfortunately hormonal acne is difficult to manage without proper medical treatment, perhaps a trip to the GP to see whether they can suggest anything?
Alongside a straightforward skincare routine (gentle cleanser and moisturiser morning and evening), sudocrem can be good for drying out the more inflamed, painful spots. Just dab a little on before bed. DO NOT POP SPOTS, NO MATTER HOW TEMPTING IT IS.

Good luck, overcoming teenage acne is a long journey, but he will come out the other side stronger, and hopefully with a good attitude towards skincare!

@egowise ive heard of cereve, I'll price it up is it gentle stuff to use? Just don't want him breaking out more, I tend to break out alot if use something a little harsh, I too have oily skin and open pores 33 and still wondering what's best 🙈

There is a specific one for sensitive skin, it's what I got my daughter, I used it first to test it.

The ordinary is good,.simple and cheap too. I used to get beauty boxes so figured out a good routine with products if try from them.
