Toddler wardrobe essentials?

So with the changing of the seasons having arrived it's that time of year when I need to update my 3 year olds wardrobe, a job I find quite overwhelming!

Trying to decide which colours to go for (brights, neutrals, muted etc...) and finding matching items in the right sizes whilst trying not to spend a fortune; exhausting!

My question is, what do people consider to be wardrobe essentials for autumn? Also, what are your top go to shops or websites? X

Waterproof dungarees are much easier for toileting than full puddle suits.

Thanks everyone for all of your replies, they are all really helpful.
Unfortunately I'm a terminally indecisive person; I'm great with big decisions but when it comes to lots of little tiny ones I get very easily overwhelmed and then just end up procrastinating for ages. It took me 2 months to just decide which potty to buy my LO! Sounds daft but that's just how my brain works and yes, its exhausting!^^
That's why I like to buy matching then I can just get the whole set and it's decision made then I don't have to spend ages deciding what to dress LO in each day as that's another challenge.
That said, I've not had much luck finding matching multi sets now he's not a baby anymore so perhaps a bundle from vinted or somewhere would work best as some have suggested.
Anyway, the task is a little easier now so thanks again.

I have 3 year old

Zara - majority of basics. Leggings, some knitted for warmth, jumpers, long sleeve tshirts. Socks.

Kuling kids - waterproof dungerees and roan coat. Waterproof winter shoes. Snow boots and wellingtons. Winter coat

Jojo mamam/ boden - odd nice jumper or cardigan.

Petit bateau sales - pjs and pants

tbh we are doing pretty well this year. I bought large last winter so most jumpers can be worn another year, mainly leggings need replacing due to holes.

One thing I have found helpful is buying either patterned tops OR patterned bottoms, makes them look a little bit more put together and easier to find things that 'go'
If all the trousers are plain.
Also keeping to a colour palette if you really want to go that far but that's personal choice!

I've found this thread so interesting

My DD is 2.5 and I buy the majority of her bits second hand, but I feel like it's becoming more of a chore and more expensive. Interested the know how much others spend each season on clothes?

@ZebrasLoveLions H&M also have a pretty good selection of waterproof boots and hi-top waterproof trainers 😊

@RedRobyn2021 - there isn’t really a secondhand market where we live. Most expensive items Ds wears at least two seasons though ie he will be on 2nd winter with his coat. Probably about €400 a year.. that’s a guess, I would usually spend around €100 every few months as needed. I don’t replace everything at once as even Same sized items fit different. Recently bought all new underwear, two pjs, and some leggings

Is this really a thing? Mine have never grown out of everything in one go. Different tops and trousers fit differently so there's always some stuff fitting fine, some still too big and some starting to look a little short.

And different seasons have only ever required additional layers. DS(7) might need a few more long sleeved tops soon. But hardly a wholesale wardrobe change.

There's no charity shops, FB marketplace sellers, car boot sales, nearly new/Preloved shops or vinted/eBay posting to your area? Confused

Caspianberg · 26/09/2023 16:58

@00100001 -no. I don’t live in uk. Any local equivalent people sell occasionally on ie playmobil toys are more expensive than me buying new. Even the flea markets are rare (2 a year), and mainly antiques, not 3 year old wellington boots.

That's really helpful, £400 isn't bad at all. Where are you shopping?

Caspianberg · 26/09/2023 19:27

@RedRobyn2021 - I buy most basics from Zara, most outdoor gear from Kuling kids (in sale ideally).
