Part time reception for summer born and SEN ds?

Ds is in Reception. July birthday, diagnosis of autism. No EHCP (have just started the process).

We nearly deferred but decided instead to just do PT reception and understood this was our right - however the school are saying it’s not ? I thought it was parental choice ?

I believe part time is at the schools discretion, though you don't have to send him at all until the term after he turns 5.

If his needs are above what they can suport without the EHCP, they should apply for interim funding, to get suport in place while the reports are being done.

This is incorrect, part time before CSA IS your right. Pretty sure it's in the school admissions code but you'd have to look it up.

I thought the parents could decide part time, delayed start, deferral for semester or hold back for a year? Could you speak to someone in your local authority who may be more up to date?

Agree with above poster regarding applying for funding

Until Compulsory School Age (term after 5th birthday) it's your choice.

I don't know about the rules but my July-born autistic son started school just one day a week from Sept to Christmas then went full time.
In hindsight, I would say it wasn't necessary, reception was so much about learning though play and, uniform aside, wasn't much different to pre-school. However, maybe it's school-dependent. My son didn't get his EHCP until Year 3 but the school were fantastic and supportive, and he had a great deal of high TA:pupil support as soon as they understood his difficulties.
BTW this was years ago, the same child is in Year 8 in a specialist ASC school.
