Have posted this in travel butdidnt get much response - I'm going to Lanzarote with my ds in April, first time we have taken him abroad.

Does anyone have any hints/tips/advice of things to take that would make our lives easier?

He is FF, and a cot is provided.. not sure about anything else?

Many thanks

Change of clothes for the plane inc a clean top for yourself - my dd pooed on my top on the plane and I didn't have one lots of little snacks and toys for the journey. a parasol/umbrella thing for your buggy. don't worry too much if you forget something - forgot swimming nappies when we went to tenerife and the local supermarket had 3 different brands of them!!

Bring a few books/toys for the plane journey too. Favourite teddy?
A bottle of water to drink when the plane takes off and lands, so that he can pop his ears.
Those all-in-one UV filtered swimsuits are handy too, so you don't have to keep slathering on the suncream all over him.
Have fun on your holiday!

We went on a 12hr plane journey with ours when he was 11months.
On a trip that long it was best to just take it in turns being the one entertaining little one, and let the other have a bit of peace. The airlines staff were great, which always helps.
Even going to Lanzarote, it is still good to have half an hour to yourself, and then half an hour with babs.
And it's definitely worth calling the airline and asking them to reserve you the seat with the most space. Not sure how big your plane will be, but if they have the spaces where a bassinet can go (although these are designed for upto 6mth olds), ie with a wall in front of you, and LOADS more legroom, then demand that. It will make all the difference.

Just bring lots and lots of snacks and drinks. Starts getting fidgety? Stick a rice cake in their hand
