staying off-school

DD is in year 4 and had high fever as she woke up on Monday (day 1). I was worried as she has been ill almost every month for the past few months with colds/coughs and off school quite a bit. Doctor checked her over and recommended Calpol. She was better on Tuesday (day 2) and off-calpol although fever was still at 38c. We even went for a walk and her appetite is ok Do people usually send kids to school on day 3? I've let her rest at home on day 3 and day 4. but my sister is on my back insisting she should be back at school not home. What are your thoughts?

Yes, I would have sent her back as soon as her temp was down and she felt ok in herself. So probably yesterday by the sounds of it.

It's none of your sister's business!
You know if your dd is well enough or not. In future, don't tell your sister this kind of info.

Id usually wait until the fever was under 38 without Calpol. But mine are a bit older now. When they are young it’s more tough to asses whether they are well enough for school as they don’t tend to articulate it so well.
Maybe take her in tomorrow but prepare yourself for a phone call to collect?

Also, in full agreement with PP! You know your child. You sister shouldn’t be commenting

When she can learn effectively. Sometimes an extra day at home can mean the next few days are more effective.

Its impossible to say just on a brief description if shes well enough!

(Uhhh my brain, sorry. I read she’s 4 not Yr 4! I still stand by what I said minus the young part 🤣😅)

I mean there isn't a specific timeframe, surely it's when the child feels better enough to go in? Obviously it would be different if she'd been off for over a week but a few days to recover from a fever is fine.
As a sidenote, 38 degrees is usually classed as a fever since Covid, so has her fever actually gone down below 38 yet?

thanks all. I'm living with my sister temporarily as I sold my house and I'm looking for a place to rent. So impossible not to let her know. My 8 year old has been running about and pretty active, so my sister says if temperature is back to normal for 24 hours with no Calpol DD should be at school. But I want to make sure she rests proper.
