Best nappies to avoid blowouts?

Meeb · 21/09/2023 09:42

DD seems to be intent on increasing my washing bill to astronomical amounts - if it isn't daily blowouts, it's at least several times a week! I've tried a variety of different brands and none seem to put a stop to it.

I'm sure they've changed nappies in the last couple of years as a money saving thing as never once had this issue with DS and I'm sure they feel thinner/cheaper now.

Any recommendations for the best size 4 nappies to contain blowouts would be very appreciated!

I find pampers are the best this time but last time I liked boots own. I wonder if it's about the got in each baby? Pampers are doing a good job for us but I'm only buying them on offer - so much more than own brands but I was fed up of the poo vests!

Pampers here as well, they have a little stretchy panel that helps to contain!

Pampers! I’ve tried all of them and these are the only ones that work. Also my fave tip for overnight when baby is sleeping through is to just put two nappies on, one on top of the other. My daughter sleeps 11.5 hours and since going this we’ve never had a leak.

A two-part cloth nappy system: nappy with separate wrap. This will give you TWO barriers at both the leg and waist, and very adjustable so you shouldn't really get leaks at all, and probably result in far less washing than you're getting now.
We used Motherease Sandys nappies with Airflow wraps and can honestly say we didn't get leaks. There was a lady at the baby group who said when we had newborns that they never got leaks with disposables (which was why I used cloth) 6 months later demanded to borrow my DD's 'spare trousers' as she needed a third spare pair - well I never bothered taking spare clothing out with me and she was utterly astounded we never got leaks and didn't believe me, I had to show my bag devoid of spares to prove it!

Sandys by Motherease

Probably just need a bigger size. I also found pampers the best

Another vote for cloth nappies. Buy second hand and it will be much cheaper then you'll never have to buy nappies again!

If you don't want to go full on cloth nappies then try putting a cloth nappy wrap over the top of a disposable. They are significantly better at keeping poo in. My breastfed baby with long term antibiotic poos has never had a blowout in cloth but does regularly with disposables.

We swear by sainsburys. The waistband is what does it for us.

It was different for each of my DC.

DD1 was best in BumGenius. DD2 was best in TotsBots.

I do still miss the nappies hanging on the line!

I honestly think it depends on the child. Admittedly it is a long time since I had a child in nappies, but I well remember other mums recommending different brands of nappy, but when I tried them, some worked well for my children but others really didn't.

I'm afraid it may be a bit of trial and error to find the nappy brand that fits your child best, @Meeb.

Aldi, and my friend swears by Sainsbury’s own brand.

momymu · 21/09/2023 10:57

Buy size up nappies.
