Teenager finding it hard to sleep

My 13 year old daughter has started to find it hard to sleep at night, she is waking 5-6 times a night and is shattered in the morning for school. She reads before she goes to sleep, im just not sure what to suggest!

Hi @Tutufruiti29
Hot milk before bed, really helps with sleep.

NuffSaidSam · 19/09/2023 19:31

Is she worried about something?

Has she started drinking energy drinks/coffee?

Is she turning all screens off at least an hour before bed? Leaving her phone in another room while she sleeps?

She could try a weighted blanket/some essential oils/having a warm bath before bed/going out for a walk and some fresh air after dinner

I will try this tonight x

She just started high school and although she says everything is ok I know she’s already feeling a bit stressed with the change. You’ve made some fab suggestions there which I’m going to try, she goes to sleep at 9.30pm, do you think this is an ok time? She get up for school at 7.30am

Definitely check on energy drinks/coffee, and all screens off 1 hour before bed and phone in another room (or parental controls).

Might offering to read to her give a chance for some 1-1 time and opportunity to talk if she wants?

BlueChampagne · 20/09/2023 10:30

And does she get enough exercise in the day?

Tutufruiti29 · 20/09/2023 10:45

She doesn’t drink coffee or energy drinks, she will have a rare cup of tea but that’s morning. She’s had some blood tests recently and her iron was a bit low so she’s taking tablets for that so maybe there could be some correlation.

im taking her away this Friday night to a hotel that has a pool etc for a pamper type night and to relax

I think maybe she could be doing some more exercise, when she is at my house, she does pe and school and her dad takes her on a lot of hikes and sports when she’s at his
