When to start???

I'm sure if I looked hard enough I could find an answer to this question but its my first time, have not read anything on it yet - my dd is 19 months. Does not indicate that she has pooed or wee'd. Should I wait until she starts doing this before I try sitting her on the po? If babies are meant to be dry before starting preschool at 2.5, I assume training should start before then?

My DD is 18 months and is (i think) starting to show an acknowledgment of when she's pooed so I thought I'd get a potty and just have is in the house and see how it goes, not start training so much as letting it become common place and explaining what it's for. Hopefully then she'll start showing an interest in using it. I did think I'd wait until the summer to really think about it properly.

Yes, have bought potty and leave it hanging around. She has an interest in the loo, but at the moment, its just throwing her ducks into it if we are stupid enough to leave the seat up!

My DD is 22 months, tells me when she has used her nappy but has no interest in sitting on a potty for long enough to perform.

Who said babies should be dry by 2.5??????? My DD1 wasn't dry until she was 3.1 - far too busy with other more important things. I have seen threads on here where people have said the pre-school won't take their child while it is still in nappies. I would find another preschool myself. Far too much pressure on children and parents these days.
Sorry, rant over

You'll find that when your DD is ready, she'll probably train very quickly any serious efforts on your part before she is ready are likely to cause you a lot of stress and get neither of you very far. Don't see any reason not to have a potty handy though. I agree with gingernija that it is far easier to train in summer.

pmsl about ducks down toilet, my DD2 enjoys the whole, lift up toilet seat, bang it down as hard as possible, lift up toilet seat.....DD1 on the other hand was horrified when she saw the picture of the toddler putting the cat down the toilet on the front cover of 'toddler taming'

good luck
